Last week I wrote about our visit to the Festival of Thrift but what I don't think I said was that it opened my eyes to just how many ways there were to save money and to be frugal and thrifty. I came home last Saturday night and scribbled down ideas and thoughts until my hand hurt and I still have more things in my head that I need to get down on paper. But here's the thing, even if I filled my notebook with ideas, I still wouldn't be covering even a fraction of it!So, as I work through my notebook and start to make a bit of sense out of my scribblings, I'm looking to you all. I want … [Read more...]
Crocktober….
I genuinely can't believe that it's October already!September is usually a month where I usually feel a bit all over the place as we settle into a routine after the Summer Holidays and this year was no different other than the fact that the older the kids seem to get, the more after school activities they seem to be doing. I love the activities they're doing at the moment and I really feel like they are getting something out of them.But.... It makes life pretty difficult as far as sitting down and eating together as a family most nights seeing as we have nights where activities cross … [Read more...]
Car Tax – the new, improved way to pay….
This week's #SaveMoneyMonday is all about car tax and the new changes that will affect anyone who needs to tax a car from the 1st October! Not a very exciting subject but still....So, for those of you who don't already know, from the 1st October this year there are big changes to the way that we tax our car - the big one being that we no longer need to display a car tax disc in our cars. It's no longer necessary so when you buy car tax in future, you won't get a tax disc and if you still have time to run on your current tax disc after the 1st October, you can destroy your existing … [Read more...]
Here we are again – Packed lunches Vs School Dinners….
In the real world, we don't all agree on everything. Sometimes, you think you're right and actually, someone comes along and shares their point of view with you and you start to think that they have a point. So, once a month I'm going to post my opinion on a particular issue and ask another blogger to share their differing views. As we're in back to school mode right now, we're kicking off with the packed lunch vs school dinners vote and I've asked the very lovely Jen from Mum in the Madhouse to share her thoughts too. You can find her post here. This year I'm going to have children … [Read more...]

Thrifty Thursday – Last minute meals….
I'm a big fan of meal planning but even so, there's often an occasion when I have to magic up a meal with just what I have in the house - usually when someone has eaten a key ingredient of the meal I was planning because they fancied it! I do have a few standby recipes that usually save the day though....Some sort of variety of Macaroni Cheese depending on what we have in the fridge. I generally have some of my homemade tomato sauce in the freezer which is great with most things - mixed with pasta, as a base for tuna pasta bake or even with some grilled chicken wrapped … [Read more...]
