The worst part about going on holiday is the coming home isn't it?I hate the journey home, the unpacking, the washing, the catching up on e mails, the going back to work to a mountain of paperwork, the British weather.... I could go on but luckily for you I have a to do list the size of the M1 to get through in the next few days so I'm short on time!We got home last night from an amazing week in the Costa del Sol and I was back at work today (hence the reason I feel particularly sorry for myself I think). I'm off tomorrow though thank goodness and it's the last day off before the kids … [Read more...]
How much telephone calls really cost…..
do you know the difference between an 07 telephone number and an 070 telephone number? Or do you know how much it costs you to ring an 0845 telephone number? No. Me neither. Which makes it quite hard to save money on telephone calls as you don't know where you need to save.So.... In one of the longest and most boring posts I may have ever written, I've listed the costs involved in dialling all telephone numbers, from both your landline and your mobile. The charges below are all dependent on who your landline and mobile providers are and what sort of packages you're signed up to but … [Read more...]
My Favourite Moneysaving Apps….
What do you use your mobile phone for?Apart from the obvious (phone, text and email) I use the camera on it all the time and I've captured a lot of special (and funny) moments that I wouldn't have done otherwise, I share my pictures using Instagram and I have lots of photo editing apps that I love. I also use Twitter and Facebook and have plenty of games downloaded to keep the kids amused when necessary. As well as the fun apps though, I use it to help me save money. There's lots of apps out there that can help you save in all kinds of ways but here's some of my … [Read more...]
Toys, toys and more toys….
If your children are any thing like mine, their bedrooms will probably be bursting with toys - some loved, some they've grown out of, some they don't play with and even, in our case, some that have never been out of the box! Don't get me wrong, we don't spoil our two but the fact is that even just taking into account birthdays, Christmas and the opportunity for them to spend their own pocket money at car boot sales has resulted in them having a lot of toys each.We have a regular clear out and have one planned for this week which the kids are looking forward to. Not.There's lots of … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Spaghetti Carbonara….
Yesterday I went to the official launch of MFEST which is a family festival taking place this July at Harewood House near Leeds and promises to be a 'Feast of British Music and Food'. I'll let you know more about MFEST in a later post as it really does sound like a great family weekend but for today, I just wanted to share this with you:It's a signed copy of one of Aldo Zilli's cookbooks, signed by the man himself after the surprise cooking masterclass we got from him. He showed us how to make Spaghetti Carbonara without using cream and I can honestly say that it was one of the most … [Read more...]
How we make room in our budget for fun….
As I've said before, my main reason for being frugal is so that I can afford to work part time and spend more time with the kids. But (there's always a but).... It's also really important to me that, as a family, we have lots of fun together and even though I know there are plenty of things we can do together that don't cost a penny, there are also lots of things we like to do together that do cost money. We allow a set amount of money each month in our budget for fun things, which could include anything from going to the pictures or bowling (doesn't happen often as it costs so much … [Read more...]
