We've seriously downgraded our Christmas decorations this year thanks to the fact that we have a new addition to our family, Monty who's a 10-week old Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu cross puppy. He's into everything so we thought a smaller tree would be good this year as our usual one is floor to ceiling and quite bushy.I didn't want to buy an artificial tree so we went with a real one that was small enough that we could stand on a table in the living room out of Monty's reach. It's cute but a little wonky and because it's smaller than usual, we decided to really cut back on the tree … [Read more...]
Christmas melted colourful crayons….
I first blogged about melted crayon cakes way back in 2011 but last weekend, I made a Christmassy version of them that I thought you might like to see today....When I first made my colourful crayons, it was way back in 2011 and the kids were still fans of colouring and drawing so the idea was to melt together all of the random stubby bits of crayon that were at the bottom of their drawing boxes. This time around, I made them as something to do when I was looking after my favourite four-year-old so I actually bought the crayons rather than using up scrappy bits - not as frugal I know … [Read more...]
Homemade shabby chic Christmas decorations….
I know, I know, it's only just November but I couldn't wait to share our homemade shabby chic Christmas decorations with you!I'm quite fussy when it comes to what goes on my Christmas tree but these cute little shabby chic Christmas decorations will definitely be taking centre stage as I love them - they're much more me than the shiny glittery traditional style baubles that you normally see. The kids are all about the glitter so our main tree is quite traditional with lots of sparkle and big traditional decorations but I love these cute little shabby chic Christmas decorations that … [Read more...]
How to make a Christmas Book Paper Tree….
Every since the kids were born we've added to our Christmas book collection and every year, we've looked forward to getting the Christmas decorations down from the loft as soon as it gets to December so we could get the Christmas books out.Over the last few years, the excitement over the Christmas books as dwindled somewhat for the kids and for the last two or three years they've only picked them up to read briefly with my gorgeous little godson when he's popped in to see us. We had a long overdue sort out before Christmas last year though and although we kept a couple of books for toddler … [Read more...]
2 ingredient homemade mod podge (and a quick idea to make cute personalised glasses with it)….
For years I've heard crafters refer to the wonder substance that is mod podge but I never really got what it was other than some sort of amazing substance that sounded expensive and way about my crafting ability. But then a couple of months ago as the leaves were turning from green to beautiful reds and oranges I googled 'how to stick a leaf to a glass jar' with the vague idea of turning a jam jar into a pretty candle holder decorated with the leaves we'd collected.Mod podge was the solution apparently but I really didn't want to buy something that would only be used once if I could … [Read more...]
Easy DIY Paper Basket to fill with treats….
Last year I made a little DIY paper basket after dissecting one that Master Frugal made at school to bring his homemade peppermint creams home in. It was such a cute little basket but I had to wait until after Christmas to pull it apart in case I couldn't put it back together again. ;-)It's OK though, I managed to take it apart, figure out how to make my own version and put his back together before he even looked up from his new Xbox game. The DIY paper baskets are great for homemade Christmas treats so I thought I'd have a go at showing you how to make them today.... How to make a DIY … [Read more...]
