I'm really starting to feel festive now (it helps that my wrapping is now all done) although the fact that poor Master Frugal's still suffering from his bad cough means that we're not doing as much as we usually would be at this time of year. Yesterday we were supposed to be going to a lovely local Christmas craft fayre but seeing as he's still coughing every time we go outside in the cold we decided to stay in and have a pyjama craft and movie day with a bit of baking thrown in for good measure.I'm glad we did decide to stay at home actually because we had a really nice day together - we … [Read more...]
Make your own Christmas Tree chocolates….
Christmas tree chocolates usually cost between two and three pounds for eight (sometimes just six) but you can make your own for much less and it only takes a few minutes to do.All you need are some wrapped sweets or chocolates, some sellotape and some thread (or Christmas tree lametta).I *borrowed* a few sweets from my friends box of Cadbury's roses and bought a few of those Freddo bars from the shop to make ours with. The Elf ones with popping candy would have been better but they had none in so we settled for these ones!Just sellotape your thread to the chocolates and … [Read more...]
Our Special Box….
Miss Frugal is just like me - she loves shiny things, especially pink shiny things!Everywhere we go she's on the look out for something new to add to her special shiny things collection - whether it's a special stone she sees on the floor, a shiny jewel in a gift shop or even an old brooch or other shiny jewellery in a charity shop or at a car boot sale.Until recently she had about ten trinket boxes of various sizes filled with her treasured but when we were sent a lovely wooden box (I can't even remember what was in it now) with a little tray in that lifts in and out, she decided to … [Read more...]
Frugal Christmas – How to make a Gingerbread House….
This year we decided to make a Christmassy Gingerbread House, largely because Miss Frugal saw a beautiful one in the school raffle and misguidedly thought that we could make one that looked just as good! It didn't work out quite as planned but it looks presentable so I thought I'd share how to make one with you so you can make your very own....To make the Gingerbread you need: 350g plain flour 175g brown sugar 100g butter 1 egg 5 tablespoons of golden syrup 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 2 teaspoons of ginger (we used more because we love the smell of the ginger)Add the flour, … [Read more...]
How to have a Frugal Christmas – Make your own chocolate tree decorations….
A Christmas Tree isn't a Christmas Tree without some chocolatey treats hanging on it is it? But I begrudge paying £2+ for six little chocolate shapes when I know that I can make my own cheaper (and bigger) versions. So, this afternoon I bought 10 Cadburys Magical Elves chocolate bars and sellotaped a loop of Christmas tree lametta to the back of it and voila, a yummy chocolate decoration was born ;-)I bought the Magical Elves bars because they were only 5 for £1 (and possibly because they're purple and match my tree) but any small chocolate bar or wrapped sweets would be fine and you … [Read more...]
