Malteser Cupcakes….
A couple of years ago, I used to have a regular Sunday post called Cupcake Sunday where I would bake a different type of cupcake every week and share it with you (if it worked)! But then somewhere along the line, I stopped doing it and around the same time, I kind of forgot just how much I love baking. Don't get me wrong, I still bake but it's more run of the mill things like packed lunch cake for the kids or special occasion Birthday cakes. It's the baking just for the fun of it that I miss so today, I thought I'd start again.I only went in the kitchen to sneak the Maltesers out of the … [Read more...]
How to cheat when making a show stopping Birthday cake….
I love to bake but I'm well aware that my skills don't necessarily match my level of enthusiasm. My cakes don't always turn our the way that I plan and even though I've made some good ones in the past, I've also had a few disasters! My last few Birthday cakes for the kids have been sucessful though so when Miss Frugal turned 12 a few weeks ago, she asked me to make a cake for her.She had a look through my Instagram pictures for some inspiration and was torn between the last two Birthday cakes that we've made:Then she had a look through the photos of some of the people who I … [Read more...]
Crocktober….
I genuinely can't believe that it's October already!September is usually a month where I usually feel a bit all over the place as we settle into a routine after the Summer Holidays and this year was no different other than the fact that the older the kids seem to get, the more after school activities they seem to be doing. I love the activities they're doing at the moment and I really feel like they are getting something out of them.But.... It makes life pretty difficult as far as sitting down and eating together as a family most nights seeing as we have nights where activities cross … [Read more...]
Cooking with kids – the easiest and scrummiest pudding ever….
Last night we bought a huge box of strawberries from the supermarket for just £1.50 - and when I say a huge box, I really do mean huge!Master Frugal was in charge of cooking tea as Miss Frugal is away on a school residential in York and he decided to treat us to his speciality (mainly because it's all he can cook) of eggy bread followed by a Strawberry Pavlova for pud.So, after an unscheduled trip to the shop to replace the eggs I smashed on the kitchen floor and a gorgeous main course of eggy bread and ketchup, he got on with making the pudding for us.He piled as many … [Read more...]
Cooking with Kids – Pizza Calzones….
We love home made pizza but last week we decided to make a variation of this by making mini pizza calzones together. It was part of an extra effort to get Master Frugal eating new things as he's seemed quite receptive to new food lately and after years of being a fussy eater, he's starting to get a bit braver. I though calzones would be a good way to help encourage him as he can't see what he's eating so he doesn't get chance to fuss over it if you know what I mean.We each made a portion of out own homemade pizza dough which is basically 125g bread flour, 7g yeast packet and 75ml … [Read more...]
