This microwave sponge pudding is one of the easiest, yet tastiest puddings that we've ever made! We've been making our microwave sponge pudding for a good 10 years or more now and I actually first shared this recipe more than ten years ago on here. TEN YEARS! I shared it with the most ridiculously small photos and barely any explanation about why we made it so often so I thought I'd dust off the old post and give it a new lease of life today. Our version of a jammy microwave sponge pudding was one of the first recipes that Miss Frugal ever learned to make … [Read more...]

Homemade Macaroni Cheese….
I have just made macaroni cheese from scratch for the first time and everyone (even Master Frugal) loved it! That doesn't happen often in this house.I am feeling like a real Domestic Goddess at the moment, although I'm sure that won't last long as I have loads of jobs to do before the kids go to bed. Here's my recipe:300g (ish) Macaroni800ml Milk50g Butter50g Plain flour300g Grated CheeseHamWhile you are cooking the macaroni in one pan, melt the butter in another. When the butter has melted, mix in the flour and stir it for a few minutes. Gradually mix in the milk and keep stirring until it … [Read more...]
Homemade Mint Crisps….
The jury is still out on my homemade mint crisps. They were fun to make and tasted nice but I don't think you could bring them out at the end of a dinner party and wow your guests (not that I ever have dinner parties lol). They were so simple to make, all you need is a biggish bar of dark chocolate and a packet of extra strong mints. Using a rolling pin bash the extra strong mints into little pieces, I left a few larger bits to make it more crunchy - Don't do this as Mr Frugal nearly lost his tooth biting into one! Then melt the chocolate in the microwave (or the old fashioned way if you are … [Read more...]
Going Bananas….
I have just found two bananas hiding at the bottom of my fruit bowl that are looking a but past it. Rather than throwing them out (as I usually would) I decided to see if I could find a way to use up these sad looking specimens....There are loads of recipes out there on the internet using bananas but the simplest one that I have found was for Fruity Banana Bread.Ingredients100g sugar,75g Margarine,200g plain flour,2 teaspoons baking powder,2 eggs,2 bananas,50g dried fruit.First of all you need to cream the margarine and the sugar. Then mix in the eggs and add the two mashed up bananas. Mix in … [Read more...]
Home Made Pizza Recipe….
We had home made Pizza for tea tonight - the kids love making this and always eat every bit of it, probably because they think things taste better when they make them.I don't usually have any yeast in the house and never buy any especially to make pizza as home made pizza to me is to use up any leftovers in the fridge and not to go out and buy something extra. So the base that I use is like a scone type base and the recipe is probably the easiest thing ever to make. All you need is 2 1/2 cups Self Raising flour, 30 g butter and 1 cup milk. To make dough, just rub the butter into the flour and … [Read more...]
