A couple of days ago I saw a photo of a delicious looking fruity scone on my Facebook timeline and ever since then I've been craving one, preferably with some lovely strawberry jam and some clotted cream smothered on it.The problem is that I'm the only person in the house who likes fruity scones and as soon as I said I was going to bake some, everyone else put in a request for some cheese scones. I have a really quick and easy scone recipe from way back when for plain scones so I decided to use that and adapt it a little bit so I could make fruit scones and cheese scones using just one … [Read more...]

Packed Lunch Cake – it’s frugal, filling and delicious….
I've always been a fan of packed lunches and in the past, I've written about the fact that I could make a healthy and filling packed lunch for around half the price of a school dinner which has saved me a fortune over the years. With both of mine in senior school from September, I'm no longer going to be making packed lunches but I've just made a final batch of our favourite home made packed lunch cake so I thought I'd share the recipe with you on here again and update the costings for 2016 to show that it's still a very frugal way to get something sweet into your child's packed … [Read more...]

No Cook Popcorn Crispy Cakes….
As much as I love my family, it drives me mad when, no matter how many times I tell them, when they use the last of something the box does not go back in the cupboard! I've lost count of the times that I've got something out of the cupboard or the fridge only to find that the box is empty! It drives me loopy, especially when I've already melted some chocolate ready to make cornflake cakes and find that the big box of cornflakes in the cupboard is empty and there's only about a handful left in the rice crispies box!I had nothing else in that would work so I was torn between abandoning … [Read more...]

I had a good look online for a good iced bun recipe but in the end I went for a bit of a mix of them all as they were all pretty different calling for everything from salt to lemon rind and from vanilla to cinnamon. I even came across one that just involved adding sugar to a shop bought bread mix which is worth considering if you want even less faff than my super easy version.... Super easy iced bun recipe For the iced buns:500g … [Read more...]
