Last month marked our five year anniversary of living in this house and although I still stalk Right Move at regular intervals during the year, I do love living here and can't see us moving any time soon. It's a new build house that we bought while it was still being built so we got to choose all the fixtures and fittings and once it got to a certain stage of the build, the developers were happy for me to just pop in and wander around while I pretended that I needed to measure something but really just wanted to see the house again, just to imagine what it would be like with us living in … [Read more...]
Secret Santa on a budget – 10 presents for under a fiver….
I love a good Secret Santa with my friends at work but we generally opt for a lower budget because, let's face it, Christmas is expensive enough as it is.We've had a year where we set the budget at £1 per person with the idea being that you had to get the most creative gift that you could for that amount. We got all sorts of gifts from candles to cactus plants dressed up as Santa and it was much more fun than opening the inevitable chocolates, biscuits and alcohol that we would have no doubt seen if we'd had a higher budget. This year, we're going for a slightly higher budget of £5.00 … [Read more...]
Make the most of the free supermarket magazines….
Do you ever pick up a copy of the free magazines that your local supermarkets usually have on display at the checkouts?I never did until recently, mainly because I thought they would just one giant advert full of buy this from here or do this using something you've bought from here or articles about people associated with the shops in question. The carrier bag de-clutter….
I sometimes struggle to keep on top of the housework because is seems like as fast as I'm cleaning or tidying, someone else is dirtying and dumping!Everyone has their own jobs to do in the house but I'm having trouble getting the message through that if you're finished with something, put it away or in the bin.If I'm honest though, it's not just the kids. I'm just as guilty of leaving things lying around or not throwing things out when I should.A quick look around now, shows me some sweet wrappers that Miss Frugal left when she went to school this morning, some tissues that Master … [Read more...]
Crocktober – the third week….
We're still enjoying taking part in Crocktober but I'm starting to run a little short of ideas now so it looks like Google is going to be my friend this week. ;-) MondayWe had beef stew on Monday although I got a bit potato happy with it and it looks in the photo like it was actually potato stew! It was delicious though and tasted really nice with some home made Yorkshire puds! TuesdayLast nights beef stew leftovers went in a pie although I strained most of the gravy off so the pie wasn't soggy. The gravy was heated up separately and poured over the pie. Don't tell anyone but … [Read more...]
