I actually wrote this post originally four years ago today when I was faced with about three quarters of a huge turkey to try and use up in the days following Christmas. These days we don't do turkey on Christmas Day because we're not overly keen (hence all the turkey leftovers we had when I wrote this) but I did think it might be helpful for those of you who do have leftovers! On another note, it makes me smile to look at my photos from back then and even the way I used to write - it's a bit cringey (as Master Frugal would say) and I almost didn't re-share this but then I thought of all … [Read more...]
Savoury Puff Pastry Christmas Tree….
I sent Mr Frugal to the shop the other night for some bits and bobs and he came home with 5 boxes of ready rolled puff pastry that was reduced to 42p a roll even though it still had a few days left before it needed using up or freezing.I think he had visions of me making him a pie for his tea every night for a week but I had different plans - I've been wanting to try making a puff pastry Christmas tree after seeing one last year but knowing that it was highly likely to go wrong, I'd kept deciding against having a go. Seeing as the pastry was so cheap though and I had some leftovers from … [Read more...]
Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Bubble and Squeak….
Did you know that in the UK every year we waste around 15 million tonnes of food every year? To put that into context, the average British family wastes around £700 a year on food that they're throwing away instead of using it up.We've reduced our food waste massively over the years simply by meal planning, using our freezer more and getting creative with our leftovers as I know lots of you lovely people have done too but there's clearly still a long way for us to go as a nation! That's why Sainsbury's have started their clever 'Waste less, Save more' campaign. They want to help … [Read more...]

Mini Chicken Souvlaki Kebabs….
We first had Chicken souvlaki kebabs when we were on holiday in Cyprus earlier on this year and ever since then I've been meaning to have a go at making them. They've been on my weekly meal plan a few times since we came home but for one reason or another I've just never got around to attempting them.Yesterday though I was determined that we were going to have my version of chicken souvlaki kebabs for tea - I had the chicken, the Tzatziki, the pitta breads and everything else in that I needed to make them and I was good to go. That is, until I went to get the BBQ skewers out of the … [Read more...]
