Slimming World quiche is basically a quiche with no pastry - very similar to my leftovers frittata recipe but with the addition of cottage cheese.I love making frittatas because they're great for using up leftovers and perfect for taking to work for lunch. When I started Slimming World on Monday it was inevitable that a Slimming World quiche version would be the first thing I tried out.I wasn't disappointed and its definitely something I would eat whether I was on Slimming World or not as it was delicious, the fact that it's syn free is an added bonus! A review of my favourite Christmas Present – The Morphy Richards Soup Maker….
Mr Frugal excelled himself this year with my Christmas present of a Morphy Richards soup maker and even did well by giving it to me on Christmas Eve morning because he knew I'd want to use it as soon as I got it and wouldn't have been able to if he'd given me on on Christmas morning.I love making soups and often make a batch at the start of the week for my work lunches so he decided to buy me the Morphy Richards soup maker to make life easier for me bless him.I've wanted a soup maker for ages but when I looked at the price of them (usually between £50 and £100) they seemed like a bit … [Read more...]
Christmas Dinner Moneysaving….
I can't believe that it's only three sleeps until Christmas Day!One of my favourite things about Christmas Day is Christmas Dinner although I think that's probably because I don't have the stress of cooking the meal itself as we always go to my Dad's for the meal itself. It's usually all under control when we arrive and after enjoying an amazing meal, I don't even have to do the washing up afterwards (although I always volunteer). We usually have a gammon joint, a chicken and a side of beef to choose from and it's served with roasties, Yorkshire Puds and whatever veg my Dad fancies … [Read more...]
This week’s meal plan {23rd November 2015}….
It's been a few weeks since I shared our weekly meal plan on here so I thought I'd share with you what we're going to be eating next week.... We're pretty much starting from scratch this week as far as the food we have in as the last couple of weeks have been all about using up everything we've accumulated in the cupboards and the freezer. We try and have a week like that every few months as the reduced bargains that I get from the shop can easily accumulate along with the leftovers that I freeze.I'm going to try and get back in to the habit of using the freezer in the … [Read more...]
Seven easy ways to spend less on fruit and vegetables….
My children are like chalk and cheese when it comes to food but one thing they do have in common is a love of fruit and most vegetables. Clearly this is a good thing as far as I'm concerned but I have noticed my fruit and vegetable spend increasing lately so I've had to be a bit clever lately to make sure that I'm getting value for money. Here's my top tips to help you to spend less on fruit and vegetables.... Buy Frozen Some people see frozen fruit and veg as a bad thing but we have a drawer full of frozen fruit (great for smoothies and crumbles) and frozen veg. It can actually be more … [Read more...]
What’s a good price when it comes to home cooked meals….
I don't tend to think of the meals I cook in terms of how much they cost per portion because I often use food that I get reduced or things that I already have in the house but an article I read a while ago shared a few recipes that cost under 50p a portion.Lots of people were commenting how great it was that you could cook meals so cheaply but I must admit that I did look at some of the ideas and the tiny portion sizes and think that I could do better. But could I do better - is it really possible to feed a family of 4 on a £2 meal budget and still make sure that what you're serving is … [Read more...]
