I'm loving that it's half term this week and I'm off work until Thursday which means I not only have time to spend with the kids, I also have the luxury of having enough time to plan and make our meals without having to stress about who needs to be where and on what day. I'm also enjoying the weather we're having at the moment because I get to feel smug that we're all warm and snuggly inside with no plans while other people are rushing about in the cold! This week we've been asked by Asda to try out their 3 for £10 fresh meat and fish range so all meats and fish featured in the menu can be … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Slow cooker sausage, bean and chorizo casserole….
I should quite probably win the award for the longest title to a blog post with this one!Is there an award for that in the MADs? If not, Sally then you should take note for next year ;-)Anyway, I've had an interesting week this week and *mostly* managed to stick to last week's meal plan so I'm ready to go with next weeks. We're starting to eat more Wintery type food seeing as it's October and the heatings back on so this week's menu has a lot of what I think of as comfort food - not sure how that's going to work with my diet though.Monday - Sausage, chorizo and bean … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Stir fry advice please….
I'm starting to feel a bit more like myself again after a week of feeling like someone had stamped all over me and sucked out all my energy (drama queen, me?). we didn't really stick to our meal plan at all last week and we actually ended up having McDonalds on two nights when Mr Frugal was at work as I didn't have the energy to even open the fridge but that can be our little secret ;-)Anyway, this week I'm determined we're going to stick to our plan 100% and there will be no McDonalds!Monday - Macaroni cheese Tuesday - Beans on toast as we have multi sports club for an hour from … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Baked Salmon….
I love this time of year. After the Summer Holidays when the days are long and filled with picnics in the park and squeezing meals in around playing out and day-trips, going back to school means that we get back into our routine.I find that meal planning is much easier when we have more set meal times and I enjoy getting together for our family meals and catching up with what everyone's done that day. The problem with them going back to school is that there never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything that I want to do so I try and spend as little time as possible cooking … [Read more...]
Slimming World – Syn free chickpea dahl loaf….
I've been following the Slimming World diet for a few months now and although it's not going as well as it was at the start (due to an all inclusive holiday and lots of picnics in the Summer Holidays, I am back on track now and am pleased with my weight loss so far.I tried on the dress I wore for the MADS last year and found it was two sizes too big and the dress I bought for the MADS award ceremony earlier in the Summer now has tobe pulled in a little with a belt so I'm definitely seeing a difference since I started. One of my favourite syn free Slimming World snacks is chickpea dahl … [Read more...]
This weeks Frugal(ish) meal plan….
The worst part about going on holiday is the coming home isn't it?I hate the journey home, the unpacking, the washing, the catching up on e mails, the going back to work to a mountain of paperwork, the British weather.... I could go on but luckily for you I have a to do list the size of the M1 to get through in the next few days so I'm short on time!We got home last night from an amazing week in the Costa del Sol and I was back at work today (hence the reason I feel particularly sorry for myself I think). I'm off tomorrow though thank goodness and it's the last day off before the kids … [Read more...]
