I know Halloween is still a few weeks away yet but the shops have been filled with Halloween goodies since the day the kids went back to school practically so I decided it was only right that this month's pound shop bargains post should be Halloween themed. We weren't disappointed with the Halloween goodies in our favourite pound show and managed to pick up Master Frugal's costume for just £2 - it's just a mask and a glove really but he loves it and he can wear his normal clothes with it which is ideal for him. There were lots of other masks and costume related items like witches hats, … [Read more...]
Fabulously Frugal #1….
Last week I wrote about our visit to the Festival of Thrift but what I don't think I said was that it opened my eyes to just how many ways there were to save money and to be frugal and thrifty. I came home last Saturday night and scribbled down ideas and thoughts until my hand hurt and I still have more things in my head that I need to get down on paper. But here's the thing, even if I filled my notebook with ideas, I still wouldn't be covering even a fraction of it!So, as I work through my notebook and start to make a bit of sense out of my scribblings, I'm looking to you all. I want … [Read more...]
Thrifty Thursday – A good store cupboard can save you money….
I *try* to plan our meals each week but it's not always easy planning a week's worth of meals in advance and as much as I'd like to tell you that I stick to it rigidly every day, I can''t! There are regular last minute changes for lots of very boring reasons - no time to cook what was planned, forgot to put everything in the slow cooker on the morning, a hungry person ate what I was planning to cook when I wasn't looking. Sometimes, it's simply because we just don't fancy what we had planned! But I always make sure that I don't mess with my plan to the point where I need to go to the shop … [Read more...]
Car Tax – the new, improved way to pay….
This week's #SaveMoneyMonday is all about car tax and the new changes that will affect anyone who needs to tax a car from the 1st October! Not a very exciting subject but still....So, for those of you who don't already know, from the 1st October this year there are big changes to the way that we tax our car - the big one being that we no longer need to display a car tax disc in our cars. It's no longer necessary so when you buy car tax in future, you won't get a tax disc and if you still have time to run on your current tax disc after the 1st October, you can destroy your existing … [Read more...]
How to get free XBox games….
This week's #SaveMoneyMonday is all about free games for your Xbox so it's bound to go down well with the little people if they have an Xbox. The free games are available to all Xbox Live gold members which the majority of people who have an Xbox already seem to be - I know my children are, as are all of their friends so I'm guessing that most people who have an Xbox will be Gold members already and be able to take advantage of this deal without any further action. If you're not a Gold member already, it is a service you pay for but it's well worth it as you get lots more content as well … [Read more...]
How to make your candles last as long as possible….
I'm afraid I've turned into a bit of a candle addict lately!I love the glow of a candle on a night and I love the scented candles that make my house smell so nice - the only problem is that the nicer a candle smells, the more I want to burn it which means that it burns down quicker and needs replacing sooner. Not great if you're trying to save money as candles aren't exactly a necessity are they? But there are ways to make a candle last a little bit longer so at least I feel like I'm doing my bit to be thrifty. ;-)Here's a few of the ways I know of....Keep the wick trimmed … [Read more...]
