I'm pretty sure that a lot of you will already know that vinegar isn't just for sprinkling on your chips, but did you know just how much you can do with it?Vinegar has been used for thousands of years and has so many different uses around the house that it's impossible to cover them all in just one post so I'm not even going to try although I am going to tell you what I think the top ten uses for vinegar are. It's chemical free and because of it's acidity it's great for getting rid of germs and bacteria.Clean your microwave by mixing 1/2 cup full of white vinegar with 1/2 cup water … [Read more...]
Make some money by reviewing things you already own….
As you probably know, I'm on a mission to make enough money to pay for Christmas and this week's challenge is to make some money using Dooyoo. If you've never heard of Dooyoo before, it's a consumer review website who 'pay' people who submit reviews to the them. They pay you in 'dooyoo miles' and have three different levels of payment depending on what it is that you're actually reviewing:Level 1 is the highest paid category and includes things like most things electronic, household appliances, pushchairs and car seats. Getting ready for Winter….
It's getting colder by the day and although we tried to last as long as we could, our heating is now back on for the first time since Spring and this, added to the fact that the nights are drawing in and X factor is back on TV can only mean one thing - Winter's coming. Now I know it might still seem early but it's October next week and I did read somewhere that we''re going to have a really cold Winter with snow forecast as early as October. So I'm going to start getting ready for Winter over the next couple of weeks. Here's our to-do list:Check the Emergency car bag and make sure … [Read more...]
Life without a microwave….
Back at the start of July our microwave died and I confidently told Mr Frugal that we could quite easily manage without replacing it, he was equally as confident that I would change my mind and we'd be microwave shopping within the month. It wasn't really a cost issue that made me decide I didn't want to replace the microwave as you can get a nice one for under £50 and the running costs are minimal (on average £8.00 a year). It was actually more of a space thing because although my kitchen isn't small, there never seems to be enough worktop space and our old microwave took up valuable … [Read more...]
It all adds up….
One of the ways that we save up for special occasions and treats is to save all of our small change. At the moment we're saving 1p's, 2p's, 5p's and 10p's but when we're feeling a bit flush (usually around pay day ;-)) we also save 20p's and there may even be the occasional 50p thrown in for good measure. We save them in three vases that sit on the kitchen windowsill - some people have herbs or flowers, we have money! When they get full, we take them along one of the machines in our local supermarket where we change them and get cash. I know the machines usually charge around 8p for … [Read more...]
School Dinners Vs Packed Lunches….
Two years ago, I wrote about why I sent my children to school with packed lunches which was, in essence (a) because I like to know what they're eating and (b) I can make a well balanced packed lunch for around half the price of a packed lunch.Even with rising costs, I can still put together a packed lunch for much less than the cost of a school dinner but it's not as easy and I have to be very organised with baking on a Sunday night and looking out for deals at the Supermarket so I have been considering school dinners recently to make life a little easier.I keep going back to my … [Read more...]
