I love that saying - do you always have some month left over at the end of the money? I first saw it on a fridge magnet at a service station we stopped at once and from then on it's been my favourite saying. It doesn't matter how much money your monthly budget says you should have left over at the end of every month if the actual amount left in your bank account doesn't come anywhere close. When we first started working out what our monthly budget was, we were pleasantly surprised to see that we had a healthy amount of money left over each month after our bill payments had been come out and … [Read more...]
Get Organised – the free printable budget planner edition….
At the start of last month I shared with you all, how I work out our monthly budget and I was pleased to get lots of emails from you saying how helpful you'd found it and how much it had helped. One thing that did come across in the emails was that some people would prefer to have a form that they can print out and use to fill in their income and monthly costs to make it a bit easier. You could do a search online for 'free downloadable budget planner' but there are so many options available, many of which are affiliated with various debt management companies or other associations. Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Slow cooked brisket….
After the chaos of last week, we have a nice boring week ahead of us thank goodness. We're all feeling a bit bleugh at the minute to be honest. Mr Frugal is awaiting an MRI scan for his vertigo as the specialist says his symptoms are much worse than they would expect and he's also due to go for an x-ray and an ultrasound as the Dr thinks he also has kidney stones. As well as that, I have a bad back from where I slipped down the stairs yesterday and poor Miss Frugal has been suffering a little lately with her abdominal migraines. We should just paint a red cross over the door and … [Read more...]
Home spa day….
Last night Miss Frugal and I had our own mini homemade spa evening while the men of the house were doing man things together (playing on the Xbox and painting little figure things). We started with a nice hot bubble bath where we washed each other's hair and made hairstyles with the bubbles. Then we painted each other's nails and used some chocolate face mask that we won in a tombola last week. And finally, we relaxed on the bed with cucumbers over our eyes.It was such a lovely night although I'm not going to lie - she spent half the night telling us we needed a hot tub and … [Read more...]
How much do you spend on your children at Christmas….
It's November tomorrow so I feel justified in asking you all just how much you spend on your children for Christmas. After all, the big day is only 54 days away. How much do you hate me for reminding you of that right now?I've been gradually doing my Christmas shopping for months now and I've managed to get a LOT for what I've actually spent. I've bought things in the Tesco 2 for 1 sale (ends today I think) and got some great bargains in the Sainsbury's half price toy sale last week.I've also bought some things off eBay and from the car boot sale. Top of Master Frugal's list was … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Toad in the hole….
I'm loving that it's half term this week and I'm off work until Thursday which means I not only have time to spend with the kids, I also have the luxury of having enough time to plan and make our meals without having to stress about who needs to be where and on what day. I'm also enjoying the weather we're having at the moment because I get to feel smug that we're all warm and snuggly inside with no plans while other people are rushing about in the cold! This week we've been asked by Asda to try out their 3 for £10 fresh meat and fish range so all meats and fish featured in the menu can be … [Read more...]
