1) There's not long until Miss Frugal and I head off to New York and the other day I was having a quick double check of our flight times and I noticed that there was an option to register an British Airways Executive Club card to collect some Avios points on our booking. I'd noticed this before but didn't do anything as we're not exactly frequent flyers but I just thought I'd have a look into it to see if the points were actually worth anything to us. Surprisingly, it totally was worth registering as the points we earned from our booking can be spent on-board with BA for food and drinks so … [Read more...]
Copycat Starbucks Marshmallow Twizzles….
Miss Frugal and her friends love Starbucks and whenever they go shopping, they usually pop in for a round of iced caramel Macchiatos and Marshmallow Twizzles. Now I don't usually object to what she spends her pocketmoney on but when she's paying £1.19 for three marshmallows on a stick covered in chocolate then I have to say something!Rather than tell her not to spend her money on them anymore, I decided to make my own and show her just how much of a profit Starbucks were making on each one they sold (yes, I know I'm not taking into account any business overheads but I'm proving a point … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {10 March 2017}….
1) With our trip to New York fast approaching Miss Frugal has been wanting to watch more and more YouTube videos about everything from the flight to the sights and the food to the shopping. I'm taking advantage of every minute she wants to spend with me because I know that, at 14, it might not last too much longer so we've been watching YouTube instead of reading guidebooks like I remember doing about places we were travelling too when I was younger. Not only are we having fun spending time together watching them, we're saving money on guidebooks (it's OK, that's not the frugal link to this … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {3 March 2017}….
1) Did you see my post last week where I mentioned how we'd booked a cheeky little family trip to Milan for the May half term week? Don't worry, I'm not going to try and class that as something frugal (although it was an AMAZING deal costing us less than a few nights in London going on the train) but I did do something during the booking process that saved us a fair amount of money so I get to class that part as frugal, don't I? I didn't book any hold luggage as there were extra fees for that that would have bumped the price of our booking up. Looking at the size of the cabin baggage allowed … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {24 February 2017}….
1) Don't judge me but I went to see the new Fifty Shades of Grey film last week with my lovely friend. We could have gone to the big cinema in the next town and watched the film in comfort when the film was released but we decided to wait a bit longer and go to our local cinema which is ridiculously cheap compared to the bigger chains. It's such a pretty little family run cinema and it's had a recent refurb with new chairs so it was so comfortable and well worth the ticket price. They do drinks and snacks from a cute little stand and the costs aren't any higher than you'd pay in a … [Read more...]
My Favourite Ted Talks about Money and Consumerism….
Have you heard of Ted Talks?I'd heard of them but never actually watched or listened to one of the talks until recently when I was off work with very little to do through the day. I realised after getting a little bit too interested in the lives of some US vloggers that even if I had little energy to do anything but watch Youtube, I could at least watch something with a little more substance. That's when I decided to finally check out some Ted Talks which are basically short (18 minutes or less) and I discovered a whole library of talks about just about any subject you can imagine. I … [Read more...]
