When my children tell me that they're bored I've always told them to go and find something to do and if they can't then they need to go and choose something from their bored jar to do (we have a tween bored jar now that they're older). With all of the books, games and technology we have in our house, there's absolutely no reason why either of them should be bored. I suppose the same goes for me, there's no reason why I should be bored either, is there? But sometimes, and please don't tell the kids this, sometimes I feel a little bit bored too except I don't have a bored jar to turn to and a … [Read more...]
Five Frugal Things I’m going to do in 2017…
This week's five frugal things post is a little bit different because I wanted to share with you five frugal things that I'm going to be doing in 2017.1) I'm going to be doing my own affordable weekly savings challenge again next year because as much as I love all of the ones you see floating around the internet at this time of year, they're just un-manageable for us and I think by about week 10 we'd be struggling. My version means that you don't save as much over the year but at least it's easy to stick to so you won't end up giving up part way through the year. Do you fancy joining … [Read more...]
How much SHOULD you be spending on your weekly shopping?
One thing I often get asked is how much people should be spending on their weekly shopping and I always struggle to answer it because what's right for one family isn't necessarily right for another. I thought I'd have a go at explaining how I think you should decide on your shopping budget, with a little help from my friends. ;-)The right amount to spend on your weekly shopping each week for your family depends on a number of different things, although these are the main three deciding factors in my mind:(a) How much money you have available to spend after paying for … [Read more...]

Five Frugal Things I’ve done this week {30 December 2016}….
1) We had gammon and lamb as our Christmas Dinner meats as we're not huge turkey fans here and we had plenty of leftovers as I'm sure we all did. ;-) We all had gammon sandwiches for lunch on Boxing Day with most of the gammon leftovers but the last bits were made into a quiche which we had for tea with leftover potatoes cooked in our Air Fryer with a little olive oil drizzled on them to crisp them up.My Dad bought us a huge leg of lamb so we had a LOT of leftovers from that to use up and I thought it would be a good start to my batch cooking mission to use it to make some meals to go … [Read more...]
Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve done this week {23rd December 2016}….
1) The best Christmas present I got last year was my trusty soup maker which I've used at least twice a week since I had it. This year I thought I'd ask Mr Frugal for something else useful so I asked him for a breadmaker as I think that will come in really handy for making dough for pizza dough, doughballs and flatbreads which I've started making more since I've been off work. He went Christmas shopping for it the other day and texted me to tell me he'd found a half price bargain in a shop in our town that was closing down - it had been the display model but he said it was in great condition … [Read more...]
