I usually sit down on a Friday afternoon after work and have a good think about what I've done that week to try and be more frugal and thrifty that's interesting enough to be included in that week's Five Frugal Things post.I didn't get chance last night though as I was too busy doing number 1 on my list, so I'm a day late but here's my five frugal things for this week....1) I got a new settee which is usually not very frugal but this one was given to me by my Dad as he bought it for himself not long ago and has now decided that it's too big for his Living Room. It's immaculate and … [Read more...]
11 tricks and tips to help you save money on your make-up….
Before I had children I was a bit of a makeup addict - forever searching for a lipstick that really would last all day and a mascara that wouldn't smudge and leave me looking like a panda before lunch. I remember my makeup bag being filled with all sorts of things - all promising to make me look beautiful and looking back, I bet I probably spent a small fortune on the contents of it.Then along came the kids and my priority was no longer trying to look good. It was enough sometimes just to make it out of bed and get dressed when they were both toddlers so managing to find the time to … [Read more...]
10 clever ways to save money as a pet owner….
I can't remember what out house was like before we got our dog but I can tell you that our beautiful Bichon Frise Buddy has completed our family perfectly and we can't imagine not having him now. He's quite a high maintenance little pooch if I'm honest but we knew that before we got him because we researched the best breed for our family extensively. The thing that sold me on him was the fact that he wouldn't shed his hair everywhere (it had nothing to do with that cute face, honest!) and the fact that, as a breed, they're known to be a very friendly and playful dog. Before we got him, … [Read more...]
This week’s bargain fruit and veg….
OK, I know that's not the most inspiring title for a blog post but bear with me....I have a bit of a love hate relationship with Aldi.I love their prices but I hate the fact that I can't get everything I need from there which usually means that I end up having to pop to another shop on the way home.Rather than doing a full sop in my local Aldi, I've started to pop in on a Saturday morning after I drop Master Frugal off at his Primary University class to get a few bits. I don't generally have my meal plan written up by this point but I do like to stock up on their 'Super Six' … [Read more...]
Five UN-Frugal things I’ve done this week {9th October 2015}….
Every week I tell you about five frugal things I've done to save some money and whilst some things might not be as frugal as others, everything I share is something that I think is frugal or thrifty for one reason or another. But I wanted to do something a bit different this week, I wanted to share some things I've done that aren't very frugal at all - not because I haven't done anything frugal but because I don't want you to think that I'm some sort of frugal wonder-woman who excels in all areas of frugal-ness (is that even a word).1. I bought a packet of Lemsips - … [Read more...]
Make sure that you’re fully prepared for Winter….
I know I've called this post 'getting prepared for Winter' but what I actually mean is getting ready for the colder weather! As the temperatures start to drop throughout October, more and more people will be starting to turn their heating on, and that's OK. In fact, I'll more than likely be joining you. ;-)I'm not going to tell you that to be frugal you need to sit at home in the cold and layer up so much that you look like the Michelin Man just to avoid putting your heating on because that's not what being thrifty means to me (it might be to you though and that's OK too).I am … [Read more...]
