1. We've had a week without shopping this week as we've been using up the random bits of food and leftovers that we have in already. It's made for some very random meals but we've got a half empty freezer now so I've made space for some more reduced supermarket bargains.2. We've all been under the weather this week with snotty noses and sore throats so rather than buying half the chemist as I would have done in the past, I decided to go for the old fashioned hot water in a bowl approach to clear our blocked noses. I added a couple of drops of Olbas oil to some slightly cooled just … [Read more...]
8 reasons why you don’t need to turn your heating on in September….
The temperatures taken a bit of a nosedive here in the last week or so and there's been a few times when my finger's been hovering over the thermostat while I've considered whether to turn the heating on.I've managed to resist the temptation so far though but I thought I'd remind myself (and you) why we don't need to switch our central heating on in September.... It's not really that cold yet! I'm not the sort of person who will sit in the cold with a hot water bottle and layers of socks, jumpers and blankets on to keep myself warm so f it's cold, I'll put the heating on. But it's not … [Read more...]

What on earth did we do before the internet came along?I hope I'm not alone in saying this but I would be lost without access to the internet, I really would be!I use it for all sorts of things - from answering those random questions that pop into my head during the day to finding a recipe for tea using only what we have in the cupboard and from helping the kids with their homework to keeping up with friends, old and new.One of the big things I use the internet for is to help me save money on an almost daily basis because it gives me access to so much information, so many ideas on … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {18th September 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Don't judge me for this one! At our local Asda I saw someone get in their car and drive away leaving their trolley in the next car parking space so I did the good citizen thing and took the trolley back to the trolley bay. Obviously my intention was to prevent the trolley from rolling away and hitting a car and had nothing to do with the fact that there was a pound coin in there waiting to be claimed. ;-)2. I bought a new table and chairs, well not exactly new but new to us. I haven't got it set up yet properly but here's the photo … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {11th September 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I've filled one of the drawers in my garage freezer with reduced breadbuns that I bought for 1p a pack in Tesco. They're the small pre-sliced Warburtons buns and the pre-sliced hot dog buns and they're brilliant to have in for packed lunches! I just get one out on a night make the sandwich while the bun is frozen and then pop it in a sandwich bag in the fridge overnight and it's perfect when he goes to have it the next day!2. On the subject of reductions, we had a whole meal for three of us for just 65p from the reduction bay this … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {5th September 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I know I've already mentioned this in my post about our visit to Mount Grace Priory last week but we've got ourselves an annual family membership to English Heritage which means we can get into over 400 sites across the UK without having to pay anything other than our monthly Direct Debit which will be less than £8. We've already had two great days out which would have cost around £50 if we had paid entry so in one week we've already got some great use out of it!2. Remember the fruit and veg that we bought when we got lost last … [Read more...]
