When I give a present to someone I like to spend time choosing a present, think about what I know the person I'm giving it to will enjoy. And because I spend time on choosing the perfect (in my opinion ;-)) present, I like to make sure that it looks as pretty as possible when it's all wrapped up and ready to give.In the past, I would pop to the supermarket and buy a pack of wrapping paper to match the occasion along with a more often than not expensive matching bow to go with it and occasionally some ribbon if I wanted to really make it look nice! Present wrapping certainly wasn't cheap … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {15th May 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Miss Frugal has a bit of a weakness for Lush bath bombs, which are far from frugal at £3+ per bomb. She often asks for them for Birthday's and Christmas and regularly spends her pocket money on a treat for herself. She bought herself one a couple of weeks ago and she's been saving it for just the right time which was apparently Wednesday night.I knew she was using it in her bath as I could smell it from downstairs but what I didn't know was that she had decided to cut the bath bomb in half with a knife so she could have two baths with it … [Read more...]
Where do you draw the line with saving money on your food shopping….
If anyone asks me the first thing they should do to start saving money, I always without fail tell them that the absolute first thing to start with is to look at their food shopping habits.Meal planning is a must for me but I need to make sure I'm organised in order to do that successfully and make sure that our shopping budget is as low as possible, while still making sure that we eat well.I make sure that I plan our meals for the following week before I go shopping and that I use food that we already have in where possible to keep my shopping bill down. To make sure I get everything … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {8th May 2015}….
I think I'm going to struggle with my five frugal things post this week because we've all been ill since last week. Me and the kids are wiped out from lack of sleep due to all our coughing and sniffling and Mr Frugal had to be brought home from work suffering from a severe vertigo attack! Thankfully, we're all on the mend now and counting the hours to the weekend so we can have a good catch up on all of the sleep we've missed.Let's see if we can actually get to five.... Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. I bought some Asparagus tips reduced from £2 to 20p at Tesco last night - … [Read more...]
Save money like your Grandma used to….
You might have seen in my Five Frugal things post last week that I taught Miss Frugal how to mend a hole in her trousers. This is something I thought would be the first thing they would teach in her sewing lessons at school but no, she can cover a notebook in fabric like a pro but they haven't got to the part where they learn actual life skills yet!It seems a bit like basic skills that our grandparents took for granted have been forgotten about. Things like sewing can be looked at as being a bit old fashioned which is a real shame because it can save money and give you a feeling of … [Read more...]
Five Frugal things I’ve done this week to save money {1st May 2015}….
Five frugal things I've done this week: 1. Remember the Valspar paint tester pots that I told you about last week? Well I bought one pot in aqua and another in a bubblegum pink shade and gave an old bookshelf a makeover. It now stands at the end of Miss Frugal's bed and gives her a bit of extra storage. I'm really pleased with it actually and even though it's not the best photo ever I hope you can see how pretty the colours are together. ;-)2. I don't know about you but I like to use microfibre cloths for dusting and wiping around the house - they're perfect for most jobs and then … [Read more...]
