A few years ago I would have laughed at you if you'd told me that not only would I have a big bag filled with homemade muffins in my freezer but that I would also be baking specifically to keep that bag topped up but these days it just normal to me.I often bake muffins on a Sunday and freeze most of them before we're tempted to eat them all (we would given half the chance) and then every night when I'm making lunches for the following day, I just get one out and pop it in the packed lunch box where it will defrost overnight ready to be eaten at lunch the next day. There's lots of … [Read more...]
Dear So and So: The one with the whistle blowing….
(This post was written last week when we were at Butlins last week - I'm feeling a lot calmer now ;-))Dear Parents Everywhere,As I write this post, I’m sat on a settee in our apartment at Butlins relaxing while the kids have gone to play in the pool for a few hours with Mr Frugal.Swimming isn’t really my thing so I opted to stay in the apartment with the idea of a lovely relax on the settee. I pictured myself sat with the patio doors open letting the cool breeze in while I read my Kindle and ate my way through the pack of chocolate chip cookies that I keep hidden in the … [Read more...]
#DealOfTheDay – Half Price Soda Streams….
There's a great Bank Holiday offer on over at the Soda Stream website right now - at least two of their soda stream machines have 50% which makes them an even better buy than they usually are!The Play Sodastream is one of the newer models and is available for £35 as opposed to the £60 to £70 price that it's selling for elsewhere so it's a great deal and I can vouch for how great a soda stream is - my two love ours!Happy Saving. ;-)Don’t miss out on future posts like this - receive updates directly to your inbox by email by adding your email address to the box on the top right … [Read more...]
Introducing #DealOfTheDay….
When I started writing this blog my intention was to use it as a way of recording our family memories and as I started writing it at a time when we needed to save money so I could work less hours I thought the frugal aspect would tie in quite nicely hence 'The Diary of a Frugal Family' was born. We've shared some of our favourite memories, activities and recipes alongside lots of money saving tips which I hope you've found helpful and today, I want to try something new. Something that will hopefully become a regular feature on here in addition to all the usual stuff.(See how I … [Read more...]
The things you discover when you take a wrong turn….
Yesterday we went shopping to York which is a good hours drive away from where we live and on the way back, we turned left instead of right at a t-junction which caused Mr Frugal to mutter a few choice words under his breath and the kids to squeal in delight when they saw a sign for a pick your own strawberry farm.Their squeals meant that we didn't turn back as Mr Frugal wanted to but that we carried on down what seemed to be the longest road ever to find the farm. We eventually found it about five miles down the road but they'd closed down the pick your own fruit side of the farm last … [Read more...]
Parenting at it’s very best: Do as I say and not as I do….
Here’s an interesting fact about me: I’ve never tried coffee!(OK, so I lied about it being an interesting fact but it’s necessary for you to know for the rest of this post so let’s pretend you found it fascinating.)When I say that I’ve never tried coffee, I really mean it – I haven’t even had a nibble of the delicious looking coffee cake they serve in the café near where I live and I certainly haven’t tried any drink containing it in any form.So when Mr Frugal ordered a Baileys Latte when we were on holiday I obviously didn’t even consider trying it, no matter how many times he … [Read more...]
