The last month has seen a huge change in Miss Frugal, as she finds her feet in Secondary school she is making lots of new friends and wants to spend lots of time on a night face-timing and texting them all. As she went to a new school in September knowing no-one, I'm embracing this as meaning that she is settling in well rather than being sad that she spends less time with me on a night. This does mean that she hasn't had as much time as usual to spend with Master Frugal and he's found that difficult to cope with and seems to be missing not only her company at school but also her … [Read more...]
Helping children to see the Happy in every day….
A while ago, I told you all about Embrace Happy which is the brainchild of the lovely Karin from Cafe Bebe. I loved the idea of finding things that make you happy and doing them and even more so the idea that even the darkest days have some happiness in then, even if it takes you a while to find it.I have tried to make sure that I personally find happiness from every day and even more importantly, I've made my own happiness by trying to focus on things that I enjoy and things that I enjoy doing. Trying to make my own happiness more is the reason why I wrote my Autumn Bucket list (that … [Read more...]
Thrifty Thursday – Don’t throw your odd socks away….
Last month I shared my top tips on how to avoid odd socks. Not the most exciting of topics to blog about admittedly but fairly necessary after the mysterious sock fairy visited us again and left yet more odd socks to add to our ever-growing collection! My best tip was definitely to buy multi-packs of identical socks because if you buy a multi-pack of seven pairs of exactly the same sock, each sock has 13 potential buddies not just the one! This means that if we do happen to lose one (or three) then it's no biggie as there's plenty of others to take its place. But odd socks or even … [Read more...]
Children can change the world #1….
I don't want to start quoting songs at you but our children really are the future and we really do need to teach them well from as early an age as possible. We need to teach them that they have a voice and that they really can change the world - one small step at a time which is why I've decided to share the small things that my children are doing to change things that are in their power to change. We started to think about the ways we could change the world after a week where it felt like our letterbox was bombarded with junk mail. I don't mean the junk mail you receive through the post … [Read more...]
Have some old fashioned Halloween family fun….
We love Halloween and the kids always make an effort to dress up - even if the costumes only stay on for an hour or so usually!I'm not a fan of trick or treating but the kids are (naturally) so we compromise and I generally take them around the houses we know in the street and then we come home and have some Halloween fun of our own - between answering the door to the constant knocking that is!I thought I'd share some of our Halloween traditions with you....Who needs trick or treating? … [Read more...]
What to do with Conkers….
Have you ever wondered what you can do with conkers, apart from actually playing conkers?I'm guessing your answer is probably no that one. Me neither, until we went to the park last week and came home with about a million of them!We had lots of fun kicking up leaves and collecting conkers - so much fun that I didn't realise just how many we had until we got home and emptied our pockets. We had so many of them that I instantly thought there must be something we could do with them all. While I decided what to do with them, I popped them in a bowl on the sideboard where most of … [Read more...]
