Mr Frugal finally got around to upgrading his iPhone 4 a few weeks ago! He's been deliberating for months whether to upgrade to the 5 or whether to hang fire for the 6 but now that the 6 has finally been released he's actually not that bothered and as he couldn't get a good deal on the 6 (he didn't want to pay for the phone itself OR pay much per month), he went for the 5s.This means that he has his old iPhone 4 to sell, the money from which will come in very handy for Christmas!I've taught him well so he did a fair amount of research on who is offering the best price at the moment … [Read more...]
Listography – Top five films on Netflix (if you’re a 12 year old)….
I love a good list and I also love Netflix so when I saw that last week's Listography was all about the best films on Netflix, I started thinking about my favourite films to share with you.But then Miss Frugal caught me scrolling through the films on there and without saying a word, went and got her pillow and blanket and plonked them at the other end of the settee. She pottered out to the kitchen and came back a few minutes later with a bag of popcorn and a glass of juice and took up her position under the blanket ready to watch a film. ;-)We ended up watching a film together and I … [Read more...]
Not my finest parenting moment….
I did something today that I'm not proud of.Something I said I would never do.I put my work ahead of my children and I'm so angry with myself.Basically, I took a day off work earlier in the week because Master Frugal had that tummy bug that's been doing the rounds. No problem there as my boss is really understanding about things like this.Fast forward to today, I'm back at work and he's back at school. I'm sitting at my desk when I notice my phone flashing up telling me that the school are calling.I answer the phone and the receptionist tells me that she has Master Frugal … [Read more...]
The carrier bag de-clutter….
I sometimes struggle to keep on top of the housework because is seems like as fast as I'm cleaning or tidying, someone else is dirtying and dumping!Everyone has their own jobs to do in the house but I'm having trouble getting the message through that if you're finished with something, put it away or in the bin.If I'm honest though, it's not just the kids. I'm just as guilty of leaving things lying around or not throwing things out when I should.A quick look around now, shows me some sweet wrappers that Miss Frugal left when she went to school this morning, some tissues that Master … [Read more...]
Have an attitude of gratitude….
Every week for about the last six weeks, I've read Polly's lovely 52 weeks of gratitude post and every week I've commented to say how lovely her post was and how important it was to be grateful for the small things in life. I've probably even said a few times that I would be joining in and writing my own but I've never got around to actually doing it until today. This is my favourite time of year and I love that the nights are drawing in - we had a gorgeous walk on the beach in the dark one night last week and we loved it. It turns out paddling in the sea is even more fun in the dark … [Read more...]
How to cheat when making a show stopping Birthday cake….
I love to bake but I'm well aware that my skills don't necessarily match my level of enthusiasm. My cakes don't always turn our the way that I plan and even though I've made some good ones in the past, I've also had a few disasters! My last few Birthday cakes for the kids have been sucessful though so when Miss Frugal turned 12 a few weeks ago, she asked me to make a cake for her.She had a look through my Instagram pictures for some inspiration and was torn between the last two Birthday cakes that we've made:Then she had a look through the photos of some of the people who I … [Read more...]
