I was having a look through one of those free magazines that the kids bring home from school a couple of weeks ago and I came across a day out which sounded like it was made for us - The Festival of Thrift. In the words of the magazine it promised to be all of my favourite words - fun, funky fabulously frugal and most important of all, free! How could we not go?Master Frugal got to be a blacksmith for half an hour and managed to make me a very presentable S hook for the kitchen and Miss Frugal found an airstream caravan called milkshakes and manicures where she … [Read more...]
Supporting your children’s learning….
I genuinely believe that a school can only do so much to teach our children - the rest of it is up to us, as parents. We have the opportunity to take what our children are learning at school and run with it - making it as interesting as possible for them at the same time. For example, at the moment Master Frugal is learning about the First World War and he is enjoying it more than any topic he has covered before at school. He loves to tell us about what he's learned that day and has lots of random facts about the war stored in his head already. While he is at that stage and is … [Read more...]

Paint the girls nails with one (or more) of the million nail varnishes. Wait several moments for the … [Read more...]
Greed….
During this Summer's World Cup tournament, Master Frugal decided that he did like football after all. He's always enjoyed playing it but the World Cup seemed to really hold his interest and not only did he start to enjoy watching matches, he started to learn the players and appreciate the amazing skills some of the players have as well as developing a dislike of the divers and the biters that made the headlines during the tournament. When the World Cup ended, he had a few new heroes to look up to and a new found enjoyment of all things football. He even asked for a football kit … [Read more...]
You can tell Mum’s a blogger – Part two….
Earlier in the year I wrote a post about the characteristics that my children have developed since I started blogging. I guarantee that if you're a blogger and have children of about four upwards then you'll recognise some, if not all of the characteristics I mentioned.I thought I'd share a new one with you today, it's one that they've only developed in the last couple of weeks but it makes me laugh every time I see them doing itI caught them both taking photos of the pancakes they made us for breakfast last week. ;-)By the time they'd positioned them on the plate just right, … [Read more...]
Our favourite way to travel….
There are so many reasons why our favourite way to get somewhere is to travel by train. No one has to drive, it's more comfortable, you can move about when you want to, you can get a table and play games or relax listening to your music, you can get just about anywhere and finally, it's great value for money! Oh and if someone needs a wee, they don't have to wait twenty miles for the next service station. So when thetrainline.com offered to pay for us to go on an adventure by train we said a big yes and started planning where we wanted to go. The only problem was that we couldn't … [Read more...]
