I'm happy to cook tea most nights seeing as I work part time and get home just after collecting the kids from school but every Wednesday I work a full day from 8am - 5pm. I have a fantastic neighbour (you know who you are) who picks the kids up from school on a Wednesday and gives them tea (which is nicer than mine according to the kids) but every now and again, Mr Frugal finishes work early on Wednesday so it seems only fair that he cooks tea on those nights. That's fair enough I hear you say but this is the man who once rung me at work to ask how you tell if Super Noodles are … [Read more...]
How to complain effectively without losing your mind and your temper….
We were in town last week queueing to pay for whichever newspaper it was that was giving away free Lego on Saturday when the lady on the till announced that she only had two packs left. Luckily Master Frugal was close enough to the front of the queue that he would get one of the packs and there was another boy in front of us who got the other one. Most of the people in the queue groaned and walked over to put their newspaper back but one lady started to shout at the lady behind the till saying how it wasn't fair that they didn't have enough for everyone. The poor lady tried to explain … [Read more...]
Is it ever OK to lie to your children….
I always tell my children that it's wrong to lie because I know that it is wrong to lie to someone - especially someone who love and who trusts you.But are there any lies that are OK, that aren't really as wrong as others? My children know that if ever they have done anything naughty, then a punishment will be so much worse if they lie to me about doing it and on the whole, I'm pretty sure that they don't lie to me. In fact, I sometimes think that they give me too much information! ;-)But, I lie to them - I won't ever lie to a direct question and my belief that it's wrong to … [Read more...]
The great Christening gift dilemma….
Last month we were invited to a very special little boys christening and I wanted to get him the perfect Christening gift - the only problem was that I had no idea what the perfect gift was!I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I spent hours, literally hours, looking round the internet for the perfect present and I had a list as long as my arm of gifts that I liked but none of them really stood out as 'the one'. The problem was that I wanted something a little bit different that he could keep forever that showed how special we think he is. The sort of gift that if I'd been … [Read more...]
Siblings – May….
Another month has whizzed past and it's time for my favourite post of the month again! It's not a very exciting post though I'm afraid. After such a busy month last month with trips to Wales, Leicester and Alton Towers, we've had a pretty quiet couple of weeks close to home to recover. We've still had plenty of fun though....I'm going to link this post with the fantastic Siblings linky and also the new Small Stuff linky that Jen has started over at The Madhouse. Both are great linkys for recording the little moments in life that make you happy. … [Read more...]
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of bribery….
If I think about it, I actually have a few ways of bribing the kids to do things I want them to do without them really realising it.I want them to read more but I want them to read because they want to read and not because I've told them to if you know what I mean. I'm trying to encourage them to love reading as much as I do and I don't think this will be achieved by standing over them and telling them they have to read for twenty minutes every night like the school tell us to do. So, we make reading reward charts for them to complete. Every time they read for twenty … [Read more...]
