I love my little car but it's not the most comfortable for travelling long distances in and the boot space isn't great so last month, when we went on our family trip to Wales we decided against taking our car and instead, we were very grateful to be loaned a Kia Sorrento for the week. The Kia Sorrento is a seven seater beauty and I'm not sure who was more excited to come home to see it parked on our drive - Mr Frugal couldn't wait to get his hands on the steering wheel, the kids couldn't wait to try out the heated seats and I was just happy to have the space to pack as much as I wanted for … [Read more...]
Thirty Thrifty Family Meals from around the web….
I've said this before and I'm pretty sure I'll say it again many times in the future but meal planning is definitely my favourite way to save money - it costs me less each week when I go shopping and saves me time each day as I know what I'm cooking.I wrote a guide over on my Meal Planning blog about what meal planning actually means and how I do it but it's not just about the planning side of things. You need to be able to stick to it which is where I've often struggled in the past - mainly because I get bored of cooking (and eating) the same things week after week but I find that a lot … [Read more...]
#WeLoveWales – Our Day at Llyn Brenig….
I love travelling and exploring new places with the kids and we try to get away as often as our budget allows us to which isn't nearly as often as we like if I'm honest! As I've said a few times, we're planning to spend more time travelling in the UK over the next few years rather than going abroad so when we were invited to visit Wales for a few days last month we jumped at the chance. There are so many beautiful areas in our country that we want to explore and although we'd never been to Wales before, it's somewhere that we've said lots of times that we'd like to visit.Miss … [Read more...]
Make do and mend eleven year old style….
Miss Frugal is much craftier than me!I tried to keep up when she started to learn crochet and gave up when she taught herself to knit on YouTube! I was so impressed with the blanket she ended up knitting but we're still looking for her next project knitting wise as she wants to do something more complicated than I think she's ready for so we're arguing debating this at the minute.I do want her to keep up her knitting skills though because you can knit so much these days and it's not old fashioned stuff either - there are some really lovely patterns out there for knitted … [Read more...]
Teaching children the value of money – Learning through play….
It's been a while since I've written one of these posts isn't it?I really do believe that it's never to early to start teaching children the value of money and I strongly feel that it should be a subject covered in the National Curriculum both at primary and secondary level. But as much as I'm sure that most teachers try to cover this, it's not currently covered as a stand alone subject so it's our job as parents to make sure we help our children learn about finance and the impacts it can have on their life when their older. That's why I started writing these … [Read more...]
On Wednesdays we wear pink….
It's the 10th Anniversary of the release of the film Mean Girls today!Ten years ago I watched the film while Miss Frugal was just a baby and Master Frugal wasn't even thought about.Today, the film is 10 years old and Miss Frugal is 11 (going on 15). She's getting ready to start senior school in September where she'll no doubt face some, if not all of the teem traumas in the film. She's going to come across some mean girls (even meaner than some that she's already encountered) and she's going to learn that no matter how hard she tries, she can't please everyone. … [Read more...]
