Last week I was considering hiring a skip for the day (at a cost of £90) so that I could clear out some of the junk from my garage and one of my friends pointed out that I didn't need to pay for a skip when I could arrange a collection from the council for a fraction of the price. I didn't even know the council offered that as a service let alone that they would come along and take my rubbish for just £15.00!I saved a fortune because someone pointed out something they thought was obvious. So, I started thinking about how many other little tips there were that may seem obvious for … [Read more...]
The small things that are making me happy this week….
I've not been online very much over the last few week - mainly because real life has required much more time and attention that usual but also because it's always nice to take a little bit of a break every now and again. Anyway, I'm back now and the fact that I can see a blue sky as I'm sitting drinking my morning Chai Latte (get me!) makes me feel very happy and optimistic that we've seen the back of the dreadful weather we've been having. Feeling so happy about such a small thing naturally made me think about Cas at Mummy Never Sleeps as she hosts a fab weekly … [Read more...]
Girls bedroom makeover on a budget….
This morning I sat down in Miss Frugal's bedroom and realised just how much 'stuff' she had and how little space she had to store it all!So while Mr Frugal was snoring away in bed, I was on the iPad trying to find the answer to our problems!By the time he woke up, I was all sorted and ready to get on with it! I found some great shelves in Ikea but didn't fancy the hour's drive each way to get them so I ended up getting two cheap cube-style units from Argos to stick on top of each other next to her desk. We also bought some cheap but pretty white storage boxes from Morrisons for £1.50 … [Read more...]
Why does everything have to be competitive….
Since we got our trampoline a year or so ago, our garden has been one of the most popular places to play in the street. In fact, until the net was blown down in the storms a few weeks ago, one of both of the kids went on it practically every day and learned all sorts of tricks and fancy moves. Even the snow didn't stop them!At all hours of the day in all weathers, I've listened to them laughing and playing together, running in rosy cheeked and laughing to make sure I stopped everything to watch whatever their newest move was before running back out again to jump some … [Read more...]
Wanted: One Knitting Nana….
There are so many reasons why I miss my Mam that I couldn't possibly list them all here and just when I think I'm doing OK, another reason for me to miss her comes along and I feel sad all over again. It happens quite often to be honest but the most recent time was just a couple of weeks ago.Miss Frugal asked me to teach her how to knit as she wants to knit a baby blanket and I thought I'd give it a go as my Mam taught me how to knit when I was her age. I stupidly thought it was like riding a bike and that once I got the needles and wool in my hands, that I'd remember what to … [Read more...]
Half Term at home….
I know that it's irrational but sometimes I do feel guilty when I have to work through the school holidays. I actually have a great job that I do enjoy and I'm very lucky in that I can drop the kids off at breakfast club in the morning and be finished in time to collect them from school at 3pm so during term time, I'm happy. School holidays are different though because I often feel like they're missing out because I'm working. This means that I tend to come home at 3pm and try and fit a whole day's worth of activities in to the space of a few hours! Even when I … [Read more...]
