Master Frugal has a giant head - it might not look that huge but seriously, it's massive! He's actually quite proud of his over-sized head though because apparently it means that he has more brains than everyone else in the family. This he likes to remind us of frequently ;-)This week, when we went to our local museum to see an exhibition of props and costumes from Sci Fi films, he was over the moon to find what he said was 'one of his kind'! I'm told that it's one of the aliens from Mars Attacks (never seen it so I have no idea) and I'm pretty sure that Master Frugal is … [Read more...]
A Pan of Potion….
It's completely normal for your 11 year old to send you a text when you're sat at work to ask if her and her 8 year old brother can actually make a potion, isn't it?Naturally I said no but then my working mum guilt kicked in and I ended up letting them under the strict instruction that they didn't make a mess and they only used juice and cake sprinkles! They clearly thought it through because half an hour later I got another text - this time with a photo of a recipe that they'd written for their potion:They'd put so much effort in to the recipe that I didn't have the heart … [Read more...]

How I encouraged my children to become happy readers who love books….
I know I've said this before but Master Frugal was once very behind his classmates in his reading and although I tried not to let it bother me, it did. It really did. More so because reading is so essential to everything in life that it was starting to seriously affect his confidence which in turn affected all other areas of his life - the day he said to me that he thought he was stupid my heart broke. But things improved rapidly when he was selected for his schools Reading Recovery program which involves one on one tutoring for an hour a day every day for a full term. Whatever was … [Read more...]
Bobbing for apples….
This is quite possibly the most fun thing we've done in a long time - it certainly made us laugh more than I can remember us laughing before. At one point I literally had tears rolling down my face although that could have been because Master Frugal burped in the water on his last go ;-) … [Read more...]
Conker Chaos….
We've had such a busy time lately that we decided last weekend was going to be a do nothing weekend and for the most part, we succeeded in doing absolutely nothing that didn't involve pyjamas and blankets ;-)But by Sunday night we needed to get out and do something so we put our wellies and coats on since it was looking a bit grey outside and headed to the park for a conker hunt. The park where all the good conkers can be found is about 15 minutes drive away and I'm not exaggerating when I say that by the time we go there the rain was bouncing and the sky was so dark you'd think the end … [Read more...]
