I spent most of this morning making Miss Frugal a giant cupcake birthday cake for her 11th birthday tomorrow and it definitely didn't go to plan - in fact I'd say it went spectacularly wrong judging by the pile of burnt crusts I had to chop off it and the fact that half of the cake stayed stuck to the mould....After seeing my disaster, I'm pretty sure you won't want the recipe I used will you?I didn't think so ;-)I managed to rescue it with a good thick layer of icing and some sprinkles but even so, it's certainly not my best work....Which brings me to my question, is it … [Read more...]
Would you eat out of date food….
*hangs head in shame*Last week I cleaned out my kitchen cupboards and I found lots of out of date food. And by out of date, I mean REALLY out of date - Just look at this....This went out of date in June 2009 - over four years ago. This was the most out of date thing that I found but there were lots of other things that were at least a couple of years out of date - all of which were binned by Mr Frugal who came in to the kitchen half way through the task to find me sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded in everything from tinned peaches to cider vinegar. He won't eat … [Read more...]
Quick Boot Sale Update….
I'm so tired right now but we've had a really good day at the car boot sale so I thought I'd just pop on and give you a quick update on how we got on today at the car boot sale.We got up early and packed so much junk in the car that it looked like it was about to burst and headed off to the boot sale where we were lucky enough to get an undercover spot around the edge.We never unpack straight away as I hate when the professional sellers come sniffing round and actually root through your bags so we had some yummy dinky donuts and chilled out for half an hour before unpacking everything … [Read more...]
The make enough money to pay for Christmas challenge – Part 1
Look away if you can't bear to read about Christmas already ;-) I hope you didn't though because to most of us, Christmas is an expensive time of year when it's so easy to spend money that you can't afford to spend and end up paying for it well into the New Year. I love Christmas and although it's certainly not all about presents, I do like the kids to wake up to lots of parcels on Christmas morning but we don't put anything on a credit card, we don't buy anything that we can't afford and we make sure that we get the very best deal for everything that we buy. This year, we've had such a … [Read more...]
The obligatory back to school post….
As much as I love the Summer Holidays, I do love it when September comes around and school starts again.I feel almost the same way about it as I do the New Year - like it's a time for starting fresh, making plans and moving forward which I know sounds a bit cheesey but that's really how it makes me feel so there ;-)Today's no exception and I'm sat on the settee right now watching the kids read before bedtime feeling quite content with life. They both love their new teachers and have had an 'awesome' first day back at school and have been chattering excitedly about random things since … [Read more...]
That’s not what I asked for….
Men (and by men, I mean one man specifically)!Today my beloved husband took Master Frugal to the hairdressers for his back to school trim. I'm pretty sure that I didn't mention the words 'scalp him', skin head or bald when I was describing what sort of cut we usually got which is why I was a little surprised to see this when I got home from work this afternoon....And no, that's not a police mug shot, it's my lovely little boy with a lot less hair than he started the day with.Mr Frugal's explanation? That's not what I asked for! Oh well that's OK then ;-)After I'd … [Read more...]
