On school days, we need to be out of the house every morning by 7.25 to get the children to breakfast club by 7.30 and then me to work by 8.00. If we're late leaving then I'm late for work and I can't afford to be late because I need to leave dead on 2.30 in time to get back to the school by 3.00 to pick them back up again. This means that we can't afford any delays or last minute traumas so our mornings have to go perfectly like a military style operation and the preparation for that starts straight after school the day before....Straight after school uniforms are taken off and … [Read more...]
Why it never pays to be smug….
I'm a little bit ashamed (just a little) to admit that I allowed myself a *slightly* smug smile when I thought about what my children would write in the annual 'What I did in the Summer Holidays' write up on the first day of school this year. We've done so much these holidays that I thought they would be able to choose a few choice examples each to show what a great time they've had, making me look like a fantastic parent at the same time.So I indulged myself by asking them both what they would write about if they were asked what they've been up to in the last six weeks or so and I can't … [Read more...]
School Dinners Vs Packed Lunches….
Two years ago, I wrote about why I sent my children to school with packed lunches which was, in essence (a) because I like to know what they're eating and (b) I can make a well balanced packed lunch for around half the price of a packed lunch.Even with rising costs, I can still put together a packed lunch for much less than the cost of a school dinner but it's not as easy and I have to be very organised with baking on a Sunday night and looking out for deals at the Supermarket so I have been considering school dinners recently to make life a little easier.I keep going back to my … [Read more...]
Harry Potter World and a play with the Citroen C4 Picasso….
One of our favourite days out this Summer so far has been our day at Harry Potter World as guest of Citroen who invited us to have a test drive of their new C4 Picasso – which is strange because I hate driving and we’ve never made it past the second or third Harry Potter JWe were amazed first of all at the Harry Potter fanatics that were there from all over the world and the sheer number of visitors queuing to get in. Luckily we didn’t have to queue and got to go in through the back way (I’m sure the kids think they’re some sort of VIPs) and the attraction itself is organised so well that … [Read more...]
Five ways to make going back to school stress free (and save money at the same time)….
Going back to school doesn't have to be stressful and it doesn't have to cost you a fortune. My two are aged ten and eight so it could be the fact that we've done 'back to school' so many times that makes me so laid back about it but really, it's not worth worrying about every little detail. Honestly ;-)Don't worry! Easier said than done I know but don't worry about every little thing. It doesn't really matter if you have enough shirts or enough pairs of trousers. Trust me, the shops won't suddenly stop selling uniform as soon as they go back to school so you've got plenty of time to … [Read more...]
I’m not proud of this….
I may have lost any hope of winning any Mother of the year awards tonight ;-)I got in from work today and Miss Frugal sat me down, made me a cup of tea and gave me one of the cupcakes she made the night before last. They were both playing on Minecraft so I put my feet up and was catching up on my emails when one of my friends rang to see if we wanted to pop round - she offered to make me a cuppa so off we went - electronics in hand to keep the kids quiet while we were having a chat. Both kids were good as gold and played together quite happily while we had a good chat over a cuppa but … [Read more...]
