A few weeks ago, we went on a car journey - A very long car journey which was made even longer by the fact that the roads were very busy.Despite this, we arrived at our destination a good seven and a half hours after setting off without hearing the words I'm bored more than once or twice and I'm almost positive that you want to know what my secret is, don't you?Well....First of all, each child had their own car bag (we used the Content and Calm tray kits that we were sent a while ago) which I packed for them with the following things:A reading book. A notebook - I printed … [Read more...]
Summer Holiday Guilt….
I have a great job with great hours that allow me to drop the kids off at Breakfast club when they’re at school and be back in time to pick them up after school. I get most weekends off and I genuinely enjoy my job so I know how lucky I am.The problem comes during the school holidays because as flexible as my work are, it’s just not possible for me to be off work with them all of the time unless I took time off unpaid which is not an option! So, since the kids broke up at the end of July, they’ve had a full week where they just chilled out at home and we did practically nothing – a … [Read more...]
Saturday is Caption Day – the one where the dog thinks he’s a human….
I took this photo a few months ago and I love how it shows how much our dog Buddy thinks he's a human - he's sat in Miss Frugal's chair and for some reason, she's sat on his dog bed on the floor! He's such an odd little thing is our Buddy. As soon as someone gets up out of a seat, he likes to jump in their place then he just stares at you when you tell him to move and in the night, he gathers up any socks and underwear that he can find (or reach out of the wash basket) and he makes himself a little nest at the top of the stairs. He's got loads of funny little habits but we wouldn't … [Read more...]
The hardest parenting decision yet….
Warning : This post contains a serious amount of question marks!I have a decision to make soon.Although actually I think I've already made the decision, I'm just not sure if it's the right one.Miss Frugal is going up in to Year 6 when she goes back to school in September and yesterday, I got the forms for choosing a secondary school for her to go to. We have two choices really - the Academy less than five minutes walk from our house with the not so great Ofsted report or the Catholic school that's a bit further away with the excellent Ofsted report. On paper the decision should … [Read more...]
My Happy Place….
I started writing this post a while ago when we were having a cheeky week away in Southport and due to the lack of Wifi and the nine million and twelve other things that make up my to do list but I never actually got around to finishing it until now....I have a happy place, a place in the world that makes me happy just by being there. This place brings back many memories of family holidays when I was younger -holidays that involved me, my Mam, my Dad and my brother and I treasure these memories all the more now that my Mam and brother aren't here with me anymore. My happy place is … [Read more...]
The best bits of Week 3 of our Summer Holidays….
After the madness of last week at Butlins and everything we did while we were away, we've tried to have a much more relaxed week this week although we've still done quite a lot in as I'm concious that I'm back at work tomorrow for the next two weeks so we won't be doing as much then. So this week Miss Frugal has had her ears pierced, we've been to Knowlsey Safari Park and Lightwater Valley, we've built boats and sailed them, had a picnic at the park and played frisbee and family baseball, been to our local museum and even managed to fit in a pyjama day while we watched movies and played … [Read more...]
