A few weeks ago I was woken in the middle of the night by Miss Frugal practically jumping on me in floods of tears.  She was crying so hard that she could hardly breathe let alone speak.Once I'd been able to make sure that she wasn't hurting or in pain, I hugged her until she managed to calm herself down enough to talk to me and when she did, she told me that she'd had a nightmare.  A nightmare that she couldn't talk about without starting to cry again other than to say that we all died in it.I calmed her down, told her it was just a nightmare and reassured her that we were all OK … [Read more...]

This week has been a brilliant week all round for a couple of reasons that I can't really share with you on here but believe me, I feel very different today to the way I felt this time last week.This was taken in the dentist's waiting room while we were sat waiting for our second appointment in as many weeks.  She's had to have a baby tooth taken out as there's a big one pushing through in the same spot.  It was awful - there's no other way to describe it.  There were tears, whimpers and lots of hand squeezing going on but at least she's not in pain anymore although when I ask her she … [Read more...]

We've had a bit of a shaky start to 2013 and for a while there it wasn't looking like it was going to be the great year that we were hoping for but this week things are definitely looking up.We're now all recovered from the awful bug that we had over Christmas (although poor Miss Frugal now has a cold and a dodgy tooth to contend with) and yesterday we had some excellent news that means that the waiting game we've been playing since New Years Eve is now over and everything's OK again (cryptic I know....)So when I saw that the theme for the gallery this week was new, I thought I'd share … [Read more...]

I don't know about your child's school but ours recommends that we read with our children for at least 15 minutes a night.  We also have spellings to learn each week and about an hours worth of actual homework each week to complete.Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with helping my children to learn and I genuinely believe that it's as much my responsibility as it is the schools to provide them with a well rounded education.  But, if I'm honest though, I don't read with them every night.  In fact, I probably read with them less than once a week - does that make me a bad parent?I … [Read more...]
