The year ahead….
2012 was a great year for us as a family and I hope that 2013 will be even better.Everyone has their own reasons for living frugally and I know I've said this before (lots of times) but one of our reasons is so that we can afford to do more fun things as a family. This year we've had some great times together and made some fantastic family memories with some lovely friends - old and new.I'll be sad to see the end to such a great year but as always, I'm looking forward to the start of the new year. A not very Christmassy ranty post….
Both of my children have beautiful red hair....They've always loved the colour of their hair and to my knowledge, until this week nothing negative has ever really been said to them about their hair colour. Just the opposite in fact, they often get stopped by people who tell them how lovely it is.We've had a few incidents like this and this - but I don't really think they're the same as they weren't outright nasty comments made to their faces like we've experienced this week.I took them into town as I had a problem with my mobile phone and had to spend over an hour in the shop … [Read more...]
We’ve reached Official Helper status….
Today was a proud day in our house.It was the day that Miss Frugal was finally awarded 'Official Helper' status. She gets a shiny green badge of her own to wear on her school jumper and she is so proud of the fact that she's been given this badge that I'm sure she'll be wearing it with pride every day.She's been after one of these coveted badges for ages but all the important jobs were taken so she had to wait for an opening and today, one of the other girls was controversially sacked from her job so a vacancy became unexpectedly available.There was much arguing at school over who … [Read more...]
A new skill for life….
I've just discovered a disturbing fact about Miss Frugal!She can make herself cry convincingly - in any situation - in less than 20 seconds!This newly discovered talent does worry me a little as I'm never going to know if she's genuinely upset about something or if she's just faking it. But at the same time, I'm secretly a little proud having just watched her in action.She's just done it when her Dad said we might be too busy to take her ice skating at the weekend. Three things I’ve learned today….
1. I am not, and never will be one of those sophisticated types who eats Sushi for lunch. Yuck, Yuck, Yuck!2. It's probably best not to get your car serviced by a garage next to a river during the rainy season just in case the river floods and the garage has to be evacuated leaving you stranded without your car until the garage reopens. This was my car when I finally got to pick it up after three days without it!3.
