I know lots of you have had parent's nights in the last week or so and I hope you're all feeling as proud as I do after ours last night. You might (but probably won't) remember that when Master Frugal was in Reception at school he was behind the rest of his classmates with both his reading and his writing. It just didn't seem to click with him like it did with his friends and as a result, his confidence suffered and it started to affect all aspects of his school work. This continued until about halfway through Year 1 and no matter what I did, I couldn't help him. I tried everything, … [Read more...]

Do you want to win one of the top toys this Christmas….
Have your children written their Christmas wish lists yet?If they have, there's a good chance that they'll have asked for a Furby seeing as that's looking to be one of the top toys for Christmas 2012.The all new and improved Furby is much more advanced that the Furbys that I remember from when I was younger. They speak both Furbish and English and there's a free app available that lets you feed your Furby virtually as well as translating Furbish into English (this is an amazing feature according to Master Frugal). The new generation Furby's are much cuter looking than their … [Read more...]
Teaching Remembrance….
My Grandad died fighting for his country during World War 2. Mr Frugal's Dad was in the army and fought in the Falklands as well as getting shot by terrorists during active service elsewhere. Both children have friends whose parents are serving Afghanistan. We have friends whose children, partners, brothers and cousins are out in Afghanistan fighting for their country. Everyone is affected by war one way or another and regardless of whether we agree with the reasons that we entered into any particular conflict, one thing we should all agree on is that we should be extremely proud of all … [Read more...]
Home spa day….
Last night Miss Frugal and I had our own mini homemade spa evening while the men of the house were doing man things together (playing on the Xbox and painting little figure things). We started with a nice hot bubble bath where we washed each other's hair and made hairstyles with the bubbles. Then we painted each other's nails and used some chocolate face mask that we won in a tombola last week. And finally, we relaxed on the bed with cucumbers over our eyes.It was such a lovely night although I'm not going to lie - she spent half the night telling us we needed a hot tub and … [Read more...]
Let’s look on the bright side….
I know we haven't had much of a Summer this year but everywhere I go at the minute I hear people complaining about the weather and how cold it is (including me) so I thought I'd share my reasons for loving this time of year instead of my moans about why I don't like it....* I love the snuggly nights when it's cold and dark outside and we're all warm and cosy in the house.* I love the rainy afternoons when you can hear the rain against the windows but we're snuggled on the settee watching a film.* I love coming home and being able to smell our almost ready dinner in the slow … [Read more...]
