I'm not a big drinker but when I do drink, I enjoy a nice cocktail.I like my cocktails the way I like my meals - as simple as possible with as few ingredients as I can get away with and my taste has certainly improved since the time that I thought that mixing a cheap bottle of red wine that I won in a raffle with a bottle of Lambrini would make a lovely rose wine. FYI - it doesn't.One of my favourite cocktails is the Lumumba:Apologies for the blurry picture, it was taken by my husband after one too many Lumumbas ;-) Traditionally the Lumumba is made from Brandy, hot chocolate … [Read more...]
The Gallery – Dear Beautiful Daughter….
To my beautiful daughter, I can't believe you're 10 this week. You seem to have grown up so fast - from a chubby smiley baby to the confident happy young lady that you are now. I know you're looking forward to the next stage of your childhood - you've told me often enough lately just how important a 10th birthday is as you're almost a teenager when you hit hose double figures. It makes me a little sad though, to know that you're growing up and that one day soon, you won't need me as much as you do right now. I don't ever want you to stop telling me your little secrets but I know you … [Read more...]
Saturday is Caption Day – the one with the silly swimming caps….
It’s Saturday again already and as usual, I’m joining in with the Saturday is caption Day linky over at Mammsaurus’ blog. This week's picture was taken last week on our holidays and took about 20 throws from Mr Frugal before I got the photo I wanted. Master Frugal was loving it - his Dad, not so much! So, what do you think? What's caption would you give this picture?(By the way, we don't usually where swimming caps. It was a rule of the hotel indoor pool ;-)) … [Read more...]
The Summer that was….
Miss Frugal's homework for this week is to write about what she did over the Summer Holidays. Where do we start....We went to the Leeds Party in the Park where we saw acts like One Direction, Little Mix, Tulisa and Marcus Collins. We caught Olympics fever and were really lucky to be able to visit one of the celebration gold postboxes. We've had lots of picnics in the parks and visits to the beach with good friends. We've done rock climbing (kind of). We've been to London and had an audience with the Queen. We went on a Wenlock hunt. We've discovered a love of all … [Read more...]
Get Organised – the inevitable back to school edition….
I work part time between 8 and 2.30, Monday to Friday which is brilliant as it means that during term time, I get to drop the kids off at breakfast club before I go to work and I'm finished in time to pick them up again at the end of the school day. Unfortunately, the fact that I have to drop them off at breakfast club by 7.30 in order to get to work by 8, means that getting ready has to be organised like a military operation! The organisation starts the day before, as soon as the kids get in from school! Shoes and coats are put where they're supposed to go and school uniforms are laid … [Read more...]
My new favourite shop – the 99p Store….
Where I live we used to have a pound shop that sold things like out of date diaries, dodgy looking garden gnomes, old CD's that no one would ever buy and rather ugly ornaments - my Mam used to call it the 'tat shop'.I think that put me off those types of shops a little bit as I very rarely go in my local 99p store and when I do, it's usually for something specific that I want, like Christmas bags. Even then I generally go straight to what I want and am in and out in no time at all, without really looking round. Then I was asked by the lovely people at 99p stores if they could try and … [Read more...]
