I originally posted this a year ago today but seeing as it's getting close to the big day, I thought I'd repost it for you ;-) We've just made our reindeer dust ready for Christmas Eve. If you are planning to make reindeer dust, please, please don't use normal glitter as birds and other wildlife might try to eat it and it can make them ill.The mixture is about as easy as it gets, there's not really any set measures but I used about a mugful of oats (Tesco Value 42p).I had some pink cooking glitter left over from Miss Frugal's Birthday cake so I was just going to use that until … [Read more...]
It’s Snowing Inside and Out….
We love snowglobes here and every year we buy a new one to add to our collection. We haven't seen one we like yet this year so thanks to some inspiration from MakeDoMum, we decided to make some Christmassy snow globes of our ownWhat do I need to make my very own snow globe I hear you ask ;-)Well, you need a small glass jar, it's a good idea to check your jar for water tightness before you start as I didn't think of that and it was only after we'd finished that I realised that Ikea spice jars are possibly not the most watertight containers I could have used! You also need some sort of … [Read more...]
A tale of two jugs….
Anyone who reads this blog regularly will know that I regularly have ideas above my station as far as domesticity is concerned. So you can imagine how excited my Domestic Goddess side got when I saw this during a recent browse of the Emma Bridgewater catalogue:This gravy jug is quite clearly exactly what I need to turn our Sunday Dinners into a sophisticated dining experience.... However, when I pointed out to Mr Frugal how much we needed this gravy boat, he had the cheek to laugh at me! Apparently, apart from the fact that one of our rather clumsy children would probably drop and … [Read more...]
Oh Christmas Tree….
After sucessfully managing to persuade Mr Frugal to venture up into our loft to get all our Christmassy things, we've just spent a lovely afternoon decorating the house....Here's our tree and some of our favourite decorations. All the special cards the kids have made over the years for us.These are the wind up toys we've got in our Christmas crackers the last few years - we've started a new tradition where every year after Christmas dinner we have a family wind up toy race. I'm on the look out for some different ones for this year so if anyone sees them, let me know. In the … [Read more...]
A Magical Christmas Starts Here….
This is absolutely my favourite time of year, I love everything about Christmas and I spend a lot of time in the build up to the big day trying to make things as special as I can for the kids. We have a lot of special family traditions at Christmas that I'll share with you over the next few weeks but one of the most magical things that we do for the kids each year is make a video from Santa to each of them.I'm sure there are plenty of sites you can use to do this but we use the Portable North Pole site as it's FREE, easy to use and the results are fantastic. You can make video's for … [Read more...]
A Spot of Shopping and a Funny Conversation….
This is possibly the funniest conversation I've ever had....Master Frugal: Is God's real name Wayne? Me: No, I don't think so darling. Why would you think that? Master Frugal: Because there's a Wayne in the manger so I just thought that was his name!Priceless! When you've stopped laughing, I want to tell you that the lovely people at Next have launched a briliant bloggers 12 days of Christmas campaign which incorporates some beautiful images they've designed. I love Christmas shopping at Next, we give all the woman in our family presents from there. This is what I'll … [Read more...]
