This isn't one of those 'woe is me' posts but I want to share my reasons for why this Christmas is more important to me than any Christmas for as long as I can remember. To explain fully, we need to rewind a little bit to Christmas 2016 when I was off work sick following a hemorrhoidectomy operation that I'd had at the end of September. Prior to the operation, I'd been in a lot of pain with a thrombosed haemorrhoid since the end of June time and after the operation, the pain was unbelievable was quite a while so I was on quite strong painkillers for lengthy periods throughout … [Read more...]
Unsubscribe and Save….
Do you ever find yourself missing the days when you paid for something and it was yours. You didn’t need to upgrade it, replace it every 2 years or download a slew of extras. You just had it. It seems as though, in the era of Netflix, Amazon Prime and Spotify we have become accustomed to an economy based on a sharing of resources rather than ownership. While subscription services always seem like a great deal on the face of it, they have a nasty habit of accumulating and eating away at a household’s perfectly planned finances. Indeed, many of us may have subscribed to services which we … [Read more...]
Helping our food bank this Christmas – the update….
Remember my post about the Christmas parcels we're making up for our local food bank? Well today, I thought I'd give you a bit of an update...In case you missed that post, we're basically making some Christmas hampers for local families which we hope to include everything they'll need to cook their Christmas Dinner other than the turkey. ;-) I'm aiming for eight parcels but I've started early so if I get enough for the eight then I'll do more if I have the chance.First things first, I got in touch with our local food bank to make sure that they would be OK with me making these … [Read more...]
10 Rock Painting Ideas…
I have a plan to paint some pretty rocks and write the names of the things I plant in my greenhouse and around the garden on them so when I had a few minutes earlier in the week, I thought I'd have a little look through Pinterest to find out the best way to go about it. There were so many rock painting ideas on there that I wanted to share that I thought I'd do a bit of a round up of them for you all.I just wish the kids were a bit younger as we could have had hours of rock painting fun if I'd realised it was a thing before now - the closest we ever came to rock painting was when they … [Read more...]
October in my garden….
I know it's completely the wrong time of year but last weekend, I sat and made a bit of a plan for what I want my garden to look like and how I want it to be more than just a place to sit and enjoy the sun!I thought it might be nice to try and document the progress I make out there by sharing a bit of an update every now and again so today, I'm sharing what my plan is and what the garden looks like right now!For years, our garden was just an outdoor playground with a 12 ft trampoline, numerous bats, balls and rackets and just about every garden game going. We could (and did) spend … [Read more...]
6 Simple to make your child’s stay in hospital easier….
When Master Frugal had a bit of an extended stay in hospital recently, there were a couple of things we did that made a difficult time that little bit easier. I thought I'd share them with you today as there were some things that we didn't really realise until the last couple of days and I really wish we'd known then sooner.I'm really sorry to keep wheeling out this photo but it's the only one I took of him when he was in the hospital and that was only taken because he wanted to update his friends on why he was off and what had happened. Obviously, the way to do that these days is on … [Read more...]
