I can't imagine what it must be like to not have enough money to feed my children and luckily, that's not something that I've ever had to worry about.Lots of families across the UK aren't that lucky though and it makes me sad to read that between the 1st April 2017 and the 31st March 2018, The Trussell Trust’s foodbank network distributed a massive 1,332,952 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis across the UK which is a 13% increase on the previous year. That's just such a sad statistic - to think that in 2018 there are so many families who genuinely just can't afford to … [Read more...]
A (belated) back to school barbecue….
Every year since the kids started school we've had a bit of a celebration on the Friday evening of their first week back at school. It started because they were both always so grumpy and tired by the end of their first week back and we wanted to basically take their mind off their moodiness until bedtime and a movie night with popcorn and treats used to be the perfect solution. The movie night morphed into a games night as they got older and it got harder to agree on a film and then changed again into a nice family meal over the last couple of years. This year we were planning a family … [Read more...]
Three things I promise my teenage daughter on her 16th Birthday….
I have an agreement with Miss Frugal that I won't share photos or stories about her on here without her agreement which is absolutely fine but today is her 16th Birthday which means that the rules don't apply, right?I'm not going to get all mushy because I don't want to be the recipient of a teenage eye roll today. But what I am going to do is share some of the things that I want Miss Frugal to remember on her 16th Birthday... NOTHING she ever does will make me love her any less! It's so important to me that she knows that there is nothing that she can do that will … [Read more...]
Win a copy of ‘Create Your Own Happy’….
Last week my lovely bloggy friends Becky and Penny released the most amazing book! The book is called 'Create Your Own Happy' and is aimed at children aged between 7 and 11 although if you're anything like me, you'll enjoy it as much as the kids will. The book is laid out in three sections - the first one is all about how to make yourself happy, the second section is about making other people happy which in turn makes you happy and the final section is about making the world a happier place which again, is going to help make you happy. The ability to take control of your own … [Read more...]
Why you should ALWAYS trust your instincts as a parent….
I mentioned briefly in last Friday's five frugal things post that Master Frugal had suffered a concussion and wasn't doing too well but things took a nasty turn on Saturday so I thought I'd give you a bit of an update - more to keep my mind off things as I'm currently sat next to his bed in hospital while he sleeps and as we’re now on day 4 I am really, really bored as well as being super tired. So, last Thursday he tripped over his shoelaces at school and banged his head. He didn’t think much of it at the time but he started to feel sick at lunchtime and by the end of the school day he … [Read more...]
Am I being unreasonable: the school uniform edition….
I want to have a little rant today about school uniform rules!I should start by saying that I'm all for school uniform and completely understand the need for guidelines and rules. What seriously annoys me is the decision that what was suitable to be worn as part of the school uniform in July is no longer suitable for the following September. Replacing perfectly good clothes is not only a waste of money but it's just wasteful in general. During the Summer term, our school announced some uniform changes that would take effect from this September. The new changes meant that the … [Read more...]
