I wasn't feeling amazing on Sunday so when I popped to the shop to buy some veggies for Sunday Dinner a pack of Aunt Bessie's roasties found it's way into my trolley!I already had a gammon joint in the slow cooker and the veg I picked up from the reduced section was the kind that could be steamed in the microwave so the 'easy' roasties seemed like a great option for a change so I could cook Sunday Dinner as quickly and easily as possible and then go have a bath and lie down.Little did I know that frugal karma was about to bite me in the bum! ;-)I got home and popped the roasties on … [Read more...]
Why I create every day….
Do you consider yourself to be a creative person?Until last year, bearing in mind the fact that I see myself as the world's worst crafter, my answer to that question would have been a resounding NO!But when I was off work ill, I watched the video below by Emily Quinton over at Makelight and I felt inspired enough that I decided that I was going to make some time every day to create something - no matter how small. At this point, I already knew how much I loved photography but I realised that I always took photos for a purpose, whether it was for here on the blog, to record a … [Read more...]
Copycat Starbucks Marshmallow Twizzles….
Miss Frugal and her friends love Starbucks and whenever they go shopping, they usually pop in for a round of iced caramel Macchiatos and Marshmallow Twizzles. Now I don't usually object to what she spends her pocketmoney on but when she's paying £1.19 for three marshmallows on a stick covered in chocolate then I have to say something!Rather than tell her not to spend her money on them anymore, I decided to make my own and show her just how much of a profit Starbucks were making on each one they sold (yes, I know I'm not taking into account any business overheads but I'm proving a point … [Read more...]
70 Frugal and Fun Spring Activities to do with the kids….
I know we've been lucky to have had quite a mild Winter this year but I'm still glad to see the return of the blue skies and the sunshine that we're seeing at the moment.I'm going to ignore that fact though and focus on the fact that it's March, the skies are blue and Spring is on it's way. Which means that we can plan in more outdoor fun.... Clear a section of the garden and plan some vegetables (or even some herbs) to grow together and when they're ready to harvest, cook them together. Go for a picnic at the park. Fly a kite. Climb trees. When you see a rainbow, go on a family … [Read more...]
What mindfulness means to me….
Have you ever driven to work and realised when you got there that you can't remember a thing about your journey?Or moved through your day moving from task to task without taking the time to appreciate anything around you? This sounds like it's going to be one of those deep posts doesn't it? It's really not (not much anyway) but I did want to take some time to tell you about mindfulness, which seems to be a bit of a buzz word at the moment, and how I practice it in my daily life. There are lots of much more scientific explanations about what mindfulness means and how to practice … [Read more...]
What we did when we didn’t get our first choice school….
All of the talk around me at the moment about who got into what school has reminded me of last year when poor Master Frugal didn't get his first choice school. I thought I'd tell you a little bit about our experience in case it helps someone else....We thought Master Frugal getting into the same school as his sister was pretty much a done deal, even though it's a faith school that everyone wants to get into because of it's excellent reputation. The school did wonders for Miss Frugal in her first couple of years there turning her from a shy un-confident child into a bubbly, happy … [Read more...]
