One of the reasons I love my slow cooker is the ability it gives me to buy a cheaper cut of meat and still turn it into a delicious meal.Brisket, for example, is much cheaper to buy than a joint of beef but after being cooked in the slow cooker for the day it tastes melt in your mouth gorgeous. You'd never guess from tasting it that it's a cheap cut of meat but it costs a good few pounds less than a more expensive beef joint of the same weight. We often buy it on offer in our local Supermarket who sell it even cheaper than usual once every month or so which makes it even better … [Read more...]
Style on a Budget – the one with the 99p dress….
Miss Frugal loves her designer makes but my purse doesn't like paying for them!We have a rule where I pay for her basics and she tops it up with her own pocketmoney if she wants something more expensive. So, for example, if she needs a pair of jeans then I'll give her what I think is a reasonable amount for a pair of jeans and she can either buy a middle of the road brand or she can add money to what I've given her to buy a more expensive pair.As an example, she's been after some Top Shop jeans for ages but at £42 a pair, I'm really reluctant to buy them for her as I know she can get … [Read more...]
Is being a stay at home Mum really harder than being a working Mum?
This morning I was in the queue at Aldi when I heard (it was impossible not to) a lady behind me in the queue talking on her phone. She seemed a bit annoyed with someone and was having a bit of a rant - most of which I just filtered out while being hypnotised by the speed of the Aldi checkout lady! One thing that I did hear was her telling the person who was on the receiving end of her rant was that it wasn't easy being a stay at home mum which is something I totally agree with. I can't tell if the person she was speaking to agreed or not but her reply to whatever they said was that being a … [Read more...]
How to clear some space on your iPhone without deleting everything….
Yesterday I got that dreaded message on my iPhone that told me my storage was almost full and that I couldn't take the photo I wanted to take. ;-(I only have a 16gb iphone as I thought that would be enough when I bought it seeing as I don't store any music on my phone and I regularly transfer my photos onto my laptop but unfortunately, it seems like I was wrong and a bigger memory might have been the way to go.I'm certainly not going to buy a new phone just for the memory at the moment though as there's nothing wrong with my current phone that can't be fixed with a few little tips and … [Read more...]
Why I don’t limit screen time for my children….
I suspect I'm in the minority here but I don't have any time limits on the amount of screen time my children have each day. That's not to say that I don't care how much time they spend on electronics or that I wouldn't impose a limit if I felt it was necessary but right now, I just don't feel like we need screen time limits in our house.(To be clear, I class screen time as any time spent watching TV, playing on games consoles and using the iPad or mobile phones.)There's a lot of focus on blogs and in the media about the dangers of screen time and the need for activities that don't … [Read more...]
New York, New York….
After months and months of putting it off, I have finally got around to booking our trip to New York! It's just going to be me and Miss Frugal for four nights in April and we're ridiculously excited about it and I thought today that I'd tell you a little bit about our booking experience because there really is a huge amount of choice out there and it can get confusing with all of the advice that everyone gives you.....We ended up booking the full package (flights and hotel) direct with British Airways for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we wanted to go with a reputable company who I know … [Read more...]
