Coconut oil chocolate is a healthier alternative to that good old bar of chocolate when you need a treat. It's made with coconut oil which is a healthy metabolism boosting fat, cocoa and a natural sweetener in the form of honey.I'm not going to lie to you though, it's not exactly a Dairy Milk but if you like dark chocolate then coconut oil chocolate is a delicious healthy alternative and my fussy eater, Master Frugal is a massive fan of it. His sister on the other hand isn't keen and says it's too much like dark chocolate for her which I thought I would agree with but I love it! How to … [Read more...]
Leftovers Wellington….
We don't watch much TV in our house but one thing we do love to watch is the US TV show, Hell's Kitchen which is a reality show where about 20 budding chefs compete for a job working with Gordon Ramsay. It's not everyone's cup of tea I know but it's one show that both kids like watching with us and the latest season which we've just finished watching on catch up has really inspired Master Frugal to get in the kitchen and cook. One thing the chefs regularly serve is delicious looking beef wellington which always looks amazing but considering I'm trying to focus on reducing our food budget I … [Read more...]
Perfect Slimming World chips with homemade chunky tomato ketchup….
It's OK, I'm not going to start posting about Slimming World every day but after my post yesterday, I did want to share with you my secret to perfect Slimming World Chips because they're great for everyone, not just people on Slimming World because they're healthy to make and delicious to eat. ;-)I don't peel my potatoes when I make Slimming World chips because (a) I'm lazy, (b) they taste nicer with the skin on and (c) there's loads of good stuff in the skin. I just give them a quick rinse under a cold tap and then cut them up into chip shapes.Next, I just pop them in a pan of … [Read more...]
Easy Chocolate Traybake recipe {Baking on a Budget}….
One of my most popular posts ever is my famous (in my mind) packed lunch cake which I used to make regularly to add to my children's packed lunches which I could make for 6p per portion. The cake itself is delicious although the 6p price per portion does reflect the smaller portion size as it's made for a child's packed lunch. Even taking into account the portion sizes, it does work out at great value and if you wanted to cut it into less portions you could have a slice double the size of the one pictured above for just 12p!I haven't made this cake in ages as both of my children are … [Read more...]
Ten ways with Turkey leftovers….
I actually wrote this post originally four years ago today when I was faced with about three quarters of a huge turkey to try and use up in the days following Christmas. These days we don't do turkey on Christmas Day because we're not overly keen (hence all the turkey leftovers we had when I wrote this) but I did think it might be helpful for those of you who do have leftovers! On another note, it makes me smile to look at my photos from back then and even the way I used to write - it's a bit cringey (as Master Frugal would say) and I almost didn't re-share this but then I thought of all … [Read more...]

Wait till you see the syn free party food snacks that I've got to share with you today - they make being on a diet at this time of year much more tolerable! Before I get to them though, I wanted to tell you about the Lidl Hot Air Fryer that they were cooked in because I was sent one to try a couple of weeks ago and it's been amazing.I've had an Air Fryer for a few years now and is one of the most used pieces of kit in my kitchen and before I tried I was convinced that a budget version of the one I had just wasn't going to be able to compete. When we unboxed the Lidl Hot Air Fryer, I … [Read more...]
