One of my missions for this month is to try and use up some of the food in the freezer as my lack of meal planning recently has meant that a lot of the bargains I've been buying with good intentions from the reduced section in the supermarket have been going straight in the freezer and simply staying there. This means I have a freezer full of food and not much room left for any more bargains!I spotted a couple of packets of sausages in there along with a big batch of my homemade tomato sauce so I thought I'd have a go at making meatball marinara for tea yesterday afternoon. I'm not usually a … [Read more...]
Super easy zesty green bean and feta rice salad #LoveYourLeftovers
I'm not a great cook but I do like to experiment in the kitchen and often find that the best recipes happen totally by accident. This delicious zesty green bean and feta rice salad came about as I had some leftover rice that I wanted to do something to that would make it interesting enough to take along to a BBQ we'd been invited to.I only used what I had in (hence the green beans instead of the peas that I had thought of using first) and considering how delicious his was and how many compliments I got on it, I think it worked out really well. Zesty green bean and feta rice salad 600g … [Read more...]
Easy Packed Lunch Pizza Swirls…. #PowerofFrozen
I don't know where I'd be without my freezer and the second freezer that I bought has probably paid for itself twice over in the short time we've had it as it's given me space to not only store reduced food bargains that I find but also to build up a bit of a freezer storecupboard. The recipe I'm sharing today for Pizza Swirls is made using a lot of my freezer storecupboard ingredients so before I share the recipe, I thought you might like to hear a bit about some of the things I keep in my storecupboard freezer drawer.First up, I have a stock of ready made pastry. I love ready rolled … [Read more...]

I'm afraid there are no pretty pictures of this recipe and no amazing close ups to show you how gorgeous it looks because let's face it, corned beef hash isn't a pretty meal.No amount of clever photos or photo props are going to make it look anywhere near as good as this delicious meal actually tastes so I'm just going to go with it and hope you try it so you can see for yourself that it tastes way better than it looks. Simple but yummy corned beef hash 750g-1kg boiled potatoes (depending on how many people … [Read more...]

With less than a week left of the Summer Holidays we're trying to squeeze as much fun out of the time we have left before the kids are back at school and I'm back at work.Yesterday was an amazing day which was filled with fun from the moment the kids woke up to homemade waffles for breakfast to the amazing rainbow fritters they made us all for tea with a trip to the local beach and paddling pool in between the two lovely meals. The fritters were mixed by Master Frugal and cooked by his big sister which meant that all I had I had to do was sit at the dining room table and enjoy their … [Read more...]
5 of my favourite warming soup recipes….
I think I must have made soup at least twice a week every single week since I got my soup maker last Christmas and I've tried out so many soup recipes that I can't even remember most of them.
