I have no idea why I've never tried making apple and banana cake before!I have them both in my fruit basket on a daily basis but I've never thought of putting them together until today. I can tell you one thing though - now I have tried an apple and banana cake, we'll definitely be having it more often because it's delicious. Banana and Apple Cake Squares 225g softened butter 1 egg 3 mashed bananas (mine were on the small side so I needed 3 but I'd say 2 would be OK ususally) 1 apple grated (I dabbed mine with some kitchen roll so it wasn't too wet) 1 capful of Vanilla essence 125g … [Read more...]
Homemade Polenta Fries….
For those of you who don't follow my meal planning blog, Meal Planning Made Easy, I thought you might like to have a quick drool over my new favourite food - homemade polenta fries.Polenta fries are a delicious alternative to normal fries and they're relatively cheap too - 74p worth of polenta did plenty of fries for us all! All I do is slice the polenta and coated them in olive oil sprinkled on some seasoning and popped them in the air fryer until they looked golden (15-20 minutes). You could just cook them in the oven on a high heat if that's easier for you though.Don’t miss … [Read more...]
Slow cooker jacket potatoes….
OK, I have been told lots of times that you can cook jacket potatoes in the slow cooker but for some unknown reason, until recently I'd never actually tried making them in there. Then a while ago we were having people round for drinks and I decided to make a chilli in the slow cooker but thought it would be nice to serve it with baked potatoes instead of rice (less chance of food dropping off the fork ;-)).As I had enough to think about, I decided to try making the jacket potatoes in the slow cooker rather than the oven so I made each one a little wrapping out of foil, pricked it with a … [Read more...]
Hot dog pizza toast….
I don't know about you but I seem to find myself being added to numerous Facebook groups recently and looking down the list of things I'd been added to the other day, I found a group that I thought I actually might like so instead of deleting it, I clicked on the link to view the group.I'm not going to name the group but the first post I read was a lady who had mentioned that she was feeding her children hot dogs for lunch. Now I know as much as the next person that there is very little nutritional value to a hot dog but the comments that this lady was getting from some people were … [Read more...]
Tasty Spicy Chickpea and Mushroom Stew {Vegetarian} {Free on Slimming World}….
In my mind, there's two different types of cooking. There's the cooking you have to do to feed your family and then there's the cooking you do for fun, usually for me that's because I have an ingredient or an idea I want to try.Just lately, we've had so much going on that I haven't had time for the fun side of cooking. In fact, I've probably only just been managing to keep up with the feeding my family type of cooking if I'm honest! But tonight, I went in the fridge for something and found some mushrooms that needed using up so I decided to have a play. The resulting meal was … [Read more...]
Tried and Tested – Morrisons Sweet and Sour Sauce….
A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the Tesco value curry sauce jar as part of my new tried and tested feature where we will be trying lots of different value products and reporting back. I was really pleased at how positive the comments were as I was half expecting lots of people to say that cooking from scratch was the only right thing to do.Today I wanted to tell you about our experiences with the M Savers Sweet and Sour sauce from Morrisons which we bought for the bargain price of 25p!I completely failed with taking note of the ingredients for this but I did read through them … [Read more...]
