Sometimes savoury muffins can be just as tasty as sweeter versions so, after last week's super easy muffin recipe, I thought I'd share my famous (in my own mind) chilli, cheese and ham muffins which are not only delicious but also great to freeze for packed lunches and very versatile. They are lovely on their own, with butter, dipped in soup and even cut open with a slice of ham in it as a little sandwich. Chilli, Cheese and Ham Savoury Muffins 250g plain flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon paprika A pinch of salt 50g butter 1 egg 250ml milk 150g cheese (the cheese with chilli … [Read more...]

What foods are in Season right now….
How do you choose what fruit and vegetables you cook with? Is it based on what you fancy with your tea or do you ever think about what's in season before you decide? I'm usually more of a cook whatever I fancy kind of cook but this year I've decided that I'm going to try and think a bit more about what foods are in season when I plan my meals. There's a couple of reasons for this, the first being that fruit and veg that are in season are usually better value for money because they're readily available and not having to be shipped in from somewhere or grown in a hothouse somewhere. Which … [Read more...]
Tried and Tested – Tesco Value Curry Sauce….
I know I've said this before (and I'll probably say it again) but as much as I like cooking from scratch and know that this is the healthiest and often the cheapest way to go, I have no issue with the odd packet mix or jar to help me along the way.If you do have an issue with this then I would recommend you don't continue reading this post. ;-)When I do buy a packet mix or a jar of sauce it's usually one that is on offer at whatever supermarket I'm in and even though the big supermarkets do their own value versions, I'd never tried one until I decided to do a bit of a tried and tested … [Read more...]
Slow Cooker Mushroom Risotto….
Risotto is one of my favourite meals but I can never be bothered with the faff of making it - all that stirring and gradually adding stock makes me not want to cook it as often as I'd like to eat it! So you can imagine how pleased I was when I discovered a few months ago that my trusty slow cooker could do most of the work for me!I know, I'm easily pleased aren't I?I've been making risotto in the slow cooker now for a couple of months and all of the variations that I've tried have been delicious. I'm going to share my version of slow cooker mushroom risotto today but you can make … [Read more...]
Don’t underestimate your bag of frozen mixed veg….
I like to make life easy wherever possible and I'm certainly not averse to the odd shortcut here and there. In fact, I'm more than happy to take advantage of anything that makes my life a bit simpler. My latest kitchen shortcut is frozen mixed veg - not exactly ground breaking I know but seriously, I love it. I'm sure all supermarkets do a similar thing but the one I've been using is the Tesco Value range which is ideal for cooking and adding to recipes as the veg is chopped into quite small pieces which makes it easy to eat for kids and I find that they're more likely to eat it because … [Read more...]
