I'm starting to feel a bit more like myself again after a week of feeling like someone had stamped all over me and sucked out all my energy (drama queen, me?). we didn't really stick to our meal plan at all last week and we actually ended up having McDonalds on two nights when Mr Frugal was at work as I didn't have the energy to even open the fridge but that can be our little secret ;-)Anyway, this week I'm determined we're going to stick to our plan 100% and there will be no McDonalds!Monday - Macaroni cheese Tuesday - Beans on toast as we have multi sports club for an hour from … [Read more...]
Cherry bakewell cup cakes with The Great British Bake Off….
I'm loving this series of The Great British Bake Off, as are most of you guys judging by the #GBBO chat on Twitter every Tuesday night ;-)Not only can you watch the show on your TV on a Tuesday night and buy the Showstoppers recipe book that goes alongside it (it's brilliant, I have it), you can now also get the Great British Bake Off App which has just been launched. The App is great and features stacks of easy to find, easy to follow recipes from Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. Cupcake Sunday – the cupcake birthday cake….
Last week I wrote a post about how to ice a cupcake and this week I was planning to make lemon meringue cupcakes as part of my new Cupcake Sunday feature. Except I haven't had time to sit down since I finished work of Friday afternoon, let alone make cupcakes as it's was Miss Frugal's 10th Birthday party today and I've been rushing around all weekend trying to get everything sorted.I do still have a cupcake type post though because Miss Frugal opted for a cupcake cake today instead of a normal shop bought cake. This is the reason for my crash course in cupcake icing last … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Baked Salmon….
I love this time of year. After the Summer Holidays when the days are long and filled with picnics in the park and squeezing meals in around playing out and day-trips, going back to school means that we get back into our routine.I find that meal planning is much easier when we have more set meal times and I enjoy getting together for our family meals and catching up with what everyone's done that day. The problem with them going back to school is that there never seems to be enough time in the day to do everything that I want to do so I try and spend as little time as possible cooking … [Read more...]
How to ice a cupcake….
What's the difference between a good old fashioned fairy cake and a cupcake?Google tells me that a cupcake originated in America and is slightly larger that the British fairy cake. Cupcakes are also usually made with a richer, thicker icing. Apparently.I'm more of a fairy cake girl and I use my Nana's favourite recipe - the same one that I've been using since I was about six when I first started baking with her. I've known it off by heart since before I knew my times tables at school. But recently, my fairy cakes have been looking like a bit of a poor relation when I've been … [Read more...]
Slimming World – Syn free chickpea dahl loaf….
I've been following the Slimming World diet for a few months now and although it's not going as well as it was at the start (due to an all inclusive holiday and lots of picnics in the Summer Holidays, I am back on track now and am pleased with my weight loss so far.I tried on the dress I wore for the MADS last year and found it was two sizes too big and the dress I bought for the MADS award ceremony earlier in the Summer now has tobe pulled in a little with a belt so I'm definitely seeing a difference since I started. One of my favourite syn free Slimming World snacks is chickpea dahl … [Read more...]
