The worst part about going on holiday is the coming home isn't it?I hate the journey home, the unpacking, the washing, the catching up on e mails, the going back to work to a mountain of paperwork, the British weather.... I could go on but luckily for you I have a to do list the size of the M1 to get through in the next few days so I'm short on time!We got home last night from an amazing week in the Costa del Sol and I was back at work today (hence the reason I feel particularly sorry for myself I think). I'm off tomorrow though thank goodness and it's the last day off before the kids … [Read more...]
Packed Lunch Moneysaving….
I originally posted this a little while ago and although, I don't usually re-publish old posts I think this one is worth a second look so you can see that children's packed lunches don't have to cost the earth. It's easy to make a filling and healthy packed lunch that your children will enjoy for around half of what you would pay for a school dinner.I'd strongly recommend a good read through the comments as well as there are some fantastic ideas in there. Feel free to add your own too....School Dinners seem to have got very expensive lately don't they?I think they're … [Read more...]
Slimming World Quiche Muffins….
For the last few months (up until I went on my holidays), I've been following the Slimming World plan (on a budget) and I've lost just over a stone altogether. It would have been a stone and a half but the half went back on while I was on my holidays! In an effort to be frugal I wasn't going to a Slimming world group, I was going it alone using some books that a friend gave to me but it was hard work. There was no one to swap ideas and recipes with, no one to really motivate me and no major reason why I couldn't have a bit of a treat and start again the next day.... Or the next.... Or … [Read more...]
Chocolate Marshmallow Fluff cake….
We have found the most delicious new treat to use in our baking - Marshmallow Fluff. It's basically just spreadable fluffy marshmallow goo but it tastes delicious, and is really versatile - we've used it in cakes, hot chocolate, melted as an ice cream topping, on toast and actually, just eaten off the spoon straight out of the jar. It's really sweet and a little bit really does go a long way.Two tablespoons has 40 calories and no fat which isn't bad considering how sweet it tastes and the jar itself cost us about £1.80 if I remember rightly. On a Sunday night, I usually make … [Read more...]
Family friendly Frugal Meals – Lemon Turkey Pappadelle Pasta….
I haven't posted my meal plan for a few weeks as it's been a bit samey samey lately! In fact, most weeks I could just copy and paste the previous weeks plan and change the days around a bit.I'm not making excuses but I leave for work at 7.20 in the morning, dropping the kids off at breakfast club for 7.30. I then finish work at 2.30 and rush to get them from school and get in about 3.15, so by the time I get home, I just want to cook something easy that I know everyone will enjoy which is why I stick to the same meals. But, I'm not only bored with cooking the same meals now, I suspect … [Read more...]
Family Friendly Frugal Meals – Turkey Meatballs….
Sunday - Turkey meatballs with spaghetti.Monday - Macaroni CheeseTuesday - Quick tea for the kids as I'm off out I think so they'll be having Fishfingers, chips and minty mushy peas.Wednesday - Homemade chilli with sweet potato wedges.Thursday - Spicy sausage and bean casserole.Friday - Picnic party tea I think as the kids were gutted that they were too poorly to go to Maxi's birthday bowling night. This weeks family friendly frugal meal is turkey meatballs with tomato sauce and pasta. Turkey doesn't usually feature on our menu plans as it's something I always think … [Read more...]
