Who knows what a Parmo is? You probably won't unless you've spent some time in the North East as it's a local 'delicacy' round here, I'll tell you what it is if you promise to keep an open mind as it tastes way better than it sounds. It's a chicken escalope coated in breadcrumbs, topped with bechemal sauce and then cheese. They're usually eaten with chips, creamed cabbage and garlic sauce and you can get them with all sorts of toppings on like mushrooms, onions, bolognaise or even doner meat. You want one now don't you, admit it! All you need to do is put a chicken breast into … [Read more...]
Cupcakes….
Anyone who knows me knows how much of a cookbook freak I am, I have loads but hardly ever use them for recipes - I just like to look at the pictures and dream.... I have had the occasional go though and one particular memory of chilli and chorizo scallops springs to mind - I won't go into it but it's safe to say that we haven't had scallops since ;-) I've also had more than one disaster with chocolate mousses and it's probably best if I don't even mention my previous risotto issues! Anyway, my various disasters haven't put me off buying cookbooks and when I went shopping yesterday I heard … [Read more...]

Who needs Dolmio….
In an effort to be even more of a perfect Domestic Goddess, I have just made my own tomato sauce, from scratch, without any help, on my own! It's super easy and cheap! I'm not good with technical terms but I just put some chopped onions and chopped garlic in a pan with a big glug of olive oil and cooked them until the onions were soft. I admit that I had some help with the stirring:Next comes the tomato bit, but seeing as Master Frugal doesn't like tomatoes he left this bit to his big sister. She added two tins of chopped tomatoes to the mixture and poured sprinkled in some … [Read more...]
Kitchen Disaster…. Again….
Just when I think I'm getting better at this Domestic Goddess lark I go and do it again - I manage to have another complete disaster in the kitchen. These are the burnt crusts from the ham and cheese quiches I have just lovingly baked. I got distracted by Miss Frugal and her pack of High School Musical Top Trumps!I carefully cut the burnt bits off in a cunning attempt to disguise my disaster but my darling husband (NOT) took one look at the quiches and said (insert smug grin and patronising voice here) 'what happened this time?'To make matters worse - I didn't even win … [Read more...]
Back on the Wagon….
I fell off the meal planning wagon last week and spent a fortune. Without a meal plan, I did our usual weekly shop, had three extra trips to the shops midweek and ended up having two takeaways. How bad is that?I need to get back to being organised as it looks like Mr Frugal's last couple of months doing nights at work is coming to an end. Recently he's been at home all day so he's managed (just) to cope with cooking tea. Now he'll be getting in the same time as me we'll need to be more organised with getting tea ready in advance wherever possible. Also we're going … [Read more...]
