It's ok - I'm not going to post a different version of the oven baked risotto recipe each week but I did want to share this one with you.Miss Frugal wanted risotto for tea but I didn't have any onion or chicken is so we decided to make a leftover version by frying some mushrooms and leeks with some leftover sausages and sticking that in the casserole dish with the rice and chicken stock. I didn't even have any garlic so I had to use Garlic salt!I cooked it in the oven until all the stock was absorbed into the rice and then I stirred some creme fraiche into it.... Et Voila, gorgeous … [Read more...]

Meal Plan Challenge – Cheats Chicken Pie….
I made Cheats Chicken Pie for tea tonight and it was delicious. I had really good intentions of making the tastiest home made chicken pie ever - I was even going to make the pastry from scratch. I got to Tescos to buy the lard for the pastry and they had that readymade puff pastry stuff for just 81p.... It was practically the same price as making my own so I decided that I would cheat just a little bit. Then when I got home I realised I had forgotton to take the chicken out of the freezer so rather than abandon the chicken pie plan, I decided to use the two tins of … [Read more...]
Yorkshire Puddings…. Part 2
I blogged about my unsuccesful Yorkshire Puddings a while back (here) and I thought I would share today's attempt with you as Miss Frugal decided to try her hand at making them this afternoon. We used the same recipe as always, which is 100g plain flour, 2 eggs and half a pint of milk but I think Miss Frugal has the magic touch because she managed to make these beauties:I think she's the next Nigella ;-) … [Read more...]
Cupcake Challenge….
After reading about English Mum's Cupcake Challenge and looking at the lovely cakes that others had made, I decided that I fancied trying my hand at making some tasty little works of art. However, as usual in the Frugal House, things didn't quite go according to plan. It beats me how everyone makes their cupcake icing look so perfect and why is it when I want my cakes to be quite flat on top they come out huuuuge? We decided to make mini carrot cakes using the recipe that I followed last weekend (here). We didn't have any lemons in so I thought we would use lime for the … [Read more...]
