{Updated for 2016} This is the time of year when all of us bloggers are sharing our top tips on how to get the most out of the Summer Holidays and to be fair, if you're anything like I was when my two were younger then you can do with all the help you can get to fill your days with fun and avoid the dreaded 'I'm Bored' words being uttered. Anyway this morning when I woke up, the sun was shining and the clouds in the sky weren't grey and angry for a change so I thought today would be a good day to share my ideas with you all. But then it occurred to me that over the years I've been blogging, … [Read more...]
My secret to planning some spontaneous fun….
That doesn't make sense does it? The words planning and spontaneous aren't supposed to go together at all but they do, they really do!I have a bag that I keep in the back of the car in the Summer which is filled with things that mean I can say YES when they want to do things - let me explain how we're prepared for Summer with our Summer bag!The first things in our Summer bag are two old towels which mean that the kids are free to paddle in the sea if we have a trip to the beach or we decide to stop off there on the way home from somewhere. In the past I might have said no because … [Read more...]
No Cook Popcorn Crispy Cakes….
As much as I love my family, it drives me mad when, no matter how many times I tell them, when they use the last of something the box does not go back in the cupboard! I've lost count of the times that I've got something out of the cupboard or the fridge only to find that the box is empty! It drives me loopy, especially when I've already melted some chocolate ready to make cornflake cakes and find that the big box of cornflakes in the cupboard is empty and there's only about a handful left in the rice crispies box!I had nothing else in that would work so I was torn between abandoning … [Read more...]
Days Out: Middleham Castle and Forbidden Corner….
Last weekend we were looking for a bit of a special day out to celebrate the end of SATs for Master Frugal and the end of a hard exam week for Miss Frugal and after much debate we decided to visit Middleham Castle and Forbidden Corner. Middleham Castle Middleham Castle is somewhere I've wanted to visit for years now as I've read about it's history as a setting in a number of different books. It was the childhood home of King Richard III (also known as the Kingmaker) and is steeped in history and tragedy. It's probably one of my favourite places that we've been since we joined English … [Read more...]
Three ingredient easy biscuit recipe…
Master Frugal asked if we could do some baking this weekend so we decided to make some biscuits using our easy biscuit recipe that we've been using since the kids were first old enough to help make them.Making the biscuit mix is the easy part - the hard part is choosing which of our many cookie cutters we should use....The super easy biscuit recipe we use is one I first shared on here in 2009 just after I'd started blogging and it remains our favourite recipe because of how easy it is and how tasty the finished results always are. I'm sharing it again because (a) it's been a long … [Read more...]
WWE Live Wrestlemania Revenge 2016….
Last Wednesday we went along to the Newcastle Metro Radio Arena to watch the Newcastle leg of the current WWE Live Wrestlemania Revenge tour and we had a brilliant night!I don’t know what it is about the wrestling because personally, I don’t watch it on TV and I’m not interested in watching it at any other time but watching it live is a whole other matter. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that the WWE superstars are right there in front of me or if it’s the electric atmosphere that the crowd create or even the sheer amazement on Master Frugal’s face when the wrestlers are introduced that … [Read more...]
