Anyone with children of a certain age will probably (almost definitely)have heard them utter the words 'Mum, I'm bored' at some point! It drives me mad, especially when there's so much for children to do these days so the words are banned in my house although I can always tell when they're bored because of the way they wander from room to room picking things up and putting them straight back down again. ;-)So as well as our bored jar (which is amazing for giving the kids ideas to keep themselves occupied) we also have a little posted on the side of the fridge:The poster works … [Read more...]
Fun science experiments you can do at home….
It's National Science Week next week so I thought we'd start the weekend with a nice little bit of science! Both of my children say that their favourite lesson at school is science and I can see why when I hear about some of the fun experiments they get to do. Master Frugal won a Headteacher's award for science last week and he's asked if we can do some science experiments at home 'instead of that crafty stuff'!So, I'm trying to do more science related activities with the kids at home which has been interesting to say the least. Not all have worked as they should have done (some have … [Read more...]

Hasn't today been a gorgeous day?I've had the windows open, the washing on the line and I'm feeling happy because the sun's shining and I have a few days off work with the kids this week.We decided to start something we've been planning for a while this afternoon to take advantage of the good weather - we went on our first family photo walk. We first talked about this a few weeks ago because Master Frugal would like to start taking more photographs and Miss Frugal would like to start going out for walks to different places. A family photo walk is the two combined which should keep … [Read more...]
Homemade Peach Lemonade – Summer in a bottle….

Our (much cheaper) alternative to a portable DVD player….
Keeping children occupied on a long journey isn't an easy task because no matter how prepared I am for the general boredom, there's only so much I can do to keep the kids occupied before they get bored of me too.We considered buying a portable DVD player because we do travel quite regularly but then we thought about the fact that we'd either have to buy a double screened one (more expense) or buy two separate DVD players to avoid the inevitable arguments over what they watch (even more expense) so ended up deciding against that idea. But then a couple of weeks ago, we called Sky up to … [Read more...]
