It's that time of year again where you can get your hands on a free two months Family and Friends railcard just by filling in a quick form online.I do this most years and more often than not, at the end of the two months you get an email offering you a good saving if you decide to purchase a full year railcard. I've applied for mine already and have my fingers crossed it'll be here soon as we love travelling by train and this railcard makes it a really affordable option.Don't forget that you can also get lots of great offers for entry into some brilliant tourist attractions if you’re … [Read more...]
My favourite way to spend a Sunday afternoon – Movies and homemade popcorn….
I love Sunday afternoons lazing on the settee with a bowl of homemade popcorn watching a film with the kids - even more so now that they're a little bit older and want to watch films that I actually have a chance of enjoying with them!Homemade popcorn tastes much nicer than the shop bought bags of it and you don't need anything special to make it with other than a pan with a lid. I did consider buying a popcorn maker at one point as they're not overly expensive and I imagine that they make the process even easier but to be fair, it's not difficult anyway so there's no point going out … [Read more...]
Our favourite ways to have after school fun without spending a penny….
I love this time of year. The lighter nights and nicer weather give us the chance to do lots of things after school that we can't do over the Winter without needing a hot chocolate and blanket to thaw us out when we get home! We try and do something every night when the weather's nice and although I don't plan ahead very much or have a daily schedule, I do have a rough idea of the things we'll be doing for the week ahead. To give you an idea, this is what we did last week after school each day:1. Monday: We went to the park for an hour although because we're lucky enough to … [Read more...]

10 frugal family fun ideas for Spring….
1. Make your own Easter Egg hunt to keep the kids occupied for a few hours over the Easter weekend. We usually hide an Easter Egg as the main prize at the end of the hunt but leave a few little mini eggs with each clue along the way. If you'd prefer to go to an organised Easter Egg hunt, we always have fun at our local Cadburys/National Trust egg hunt which takes place at a lovey National Trust property near us - it cost us £1 last year and we spent a lovely few hours in the grounds of the property searching for clues. At the end we all got an Easter Egg so it was well … [Read more...]
Half Term at home….
I know that it's irrational but sometimes I do feel guilty when I have to work through the school holidays. I actually have a great job that I do enjoy and I'm very lucky in that I can drop the kids off at breakfast club in the morning and be finished in time to collect them from school at 3pm so during term time, I'm happy. School holidays are different though because I often feel like they're missing out because I'm working. This means that I tend to come home at 3pm and try and fit a whole day's worth of activities in to the space of a few hours! Even when I … [Read more...]
